    Building Excellence (BEX)

Building Excellence is a six-year capital program approved by Seattle voters. There have been three Building Excellence levies/bonds since 1995. BEX I Levy passed in 1995 with $330 million; BEX II, a $398 million levy, was approved in 2001; and BEX III Bond with $490 million passed in 2007. These three programs have replaced, renovated, and modernized 39 schools in the district. In addition, technology and infrastructure have received upgrades as well.

    Thank You, Seattle voters!
Initial Ballot Results Show Strong Support for Seattle Levies

Based on initial release of ballot counts on Feb. 9 by King County Elections, Seattle voters showed very strong support for the renewal of two school district levies. Proposition 1, the capital levy, won support from 71.4 percent of voters and Proposition 2, the operations levy, garnered 71.8 percent of voters. Results can be viewed at the King County Elections Web site. The $442.7 million operations levy would replace the three-year levy approved in 2007; it represents nearly one quarter of the District's day-to-day operating budget, and supports educational services not fully funded by the state. The six-year, $270 million capital levy, Buildings, Technology and Academics III (BTA III) replaces the Buildings, Technology and Academics II levy (BTA II) approved in 2004. Detailed information about the levies can be found on this Levies 2010 Information brochure. See the district's news release.
