    Family Partnerships Task Force

Seattle Public Schools and the SPS Board of Directors believe family engagement and two-way communication are essential to improving district decisions and outcomes for students. In support of this commitment, Superintendent Larry Nyland and the SPS School Board have made systemic and transparent family engagement a district goal for 2017-18.

    Role of the Task Force

The role of the Family Partnerships Task Force is:

    1. Recommend multi-year plan for district wide family engagement: As a member of the family engagement task force, you will participate in creating a multi-year plan for family engagement. You may also be asked to review and update family engagement policies and programs.
    2. Develop recommended engagement strategies: You will also be asked to support analysis of broad family engagement data and provide recommendations on engagement strategies and additional supports for SPS staff and other stakeholders.
    3. Represent your community and stakeholders: Finally, we will ask that you help share the Family Engagement plan with your community, colleagues and friends. Task force recommendations will be shared with the Superintendent and SPS School Board. We recognize that the turnaround time to complete the task force’s work is tight. However, we believe that the time frame will not compromise the quality of the work. We appreciate your commitment to a long-term plan that honors and respects families as partners in education. Our collective plan will reflect our commitment to preparing our students for a future that is bright and beneficial to our city and state.

    Family and Community Representation

Our goal is for the task force to include staff, family, community based organizations (CBO’s), and community members who represent the diversity of Seattle Public Schools and who can provide valuable insight, expertise and perspective on ways to improve family engagement in Seattle Public Schools. Members should bring an open mind, a passion for student learning, and a willingness to engage in inquiry, meaningful dialogue, and collaboration throughout the task force process.
