    New Process for Certificated Category Verification

    What are categories, and how are they used?

    The category verification process allows certificated staff to select the subject areas/grade levels they wish to teach and/or be assigned to in their buildings. Categories are also used to determine who is impacted during the displacement process when positions must be reduced at a school.  Displacements are determined by seniority within category.

    Categories are more specific than endorsements.  For example, a teacher may hold a K-8 endorsement but prefer only to teach Kindergarten or grades 1-3. There are categories for each of the grade bands. You can choose as many categories as you wish as long as you hold the endorsement required to teach the subject or grade.
