Olympic View Library and Technology Program

The Olympic View Elementary School Library and technology program encourages students to explore the wonders of reading and information technology. We currently have approximately 11,000 titles as well as 30 VDI lab computers.

The mission of OV library and technology program is to ensure that students become effective and productive users of ideas and information. Our library and technology program provides more than just book check out. The librarian collaborates with classroom teachers to provide resources in all curriculi including reading, writing and science as well as teaching online student research and presentation skills.

During time in library or technology students learn a new literacy skill or exposure to a new information tool, (searching on-line catalog or database). Younger students enjoy a read a loud and exposures to many books and genres. Older students are encouraged to explore their personal literature interests and hone in their information gathering skills through various multimedia tools.
Please check with your child’s teacher to see what day your child has library and which days books are due back.

    Volunteer Opportunities

If you are interested in volunteering in the library, please contact the school office at (206) 252-5500. All volunteers must complete a background check first.  The library always has on-going projects such as:

    • Shelving books (I generally need help with this constantly)!
    • working circulation desk
    • organizing book room
    • processing books, (covering and fixing)

    • Helping in technology classes in many different capacities such as a special project at upper grades and/or basic help with younger grades, (mouse control, logging in etc.).  If you have a special skill set (coding, graphic design, web creation) please share your knowledge with us!

    Global Reading Challenge:

    • help with GLOBAL READING CHALLENGE for 4th-5th grade students from Nov.-March (weekly commitment).
