OV PTA 2022-23 Welcome Letter

September 7, 2022

Dear Families,

As your PTA President, Andrea Chaddock, I would like to welcome you to the Olympic View Elementary School 2022-23 academic year! I have a 5th and a 2nd grader at OV. This is my first year as president and I have an amazing group of parents on the PTA Board.

It looks as though we are entering school with a living-with-COVID perspective from SPS. We are hopeful that we will be able to return to having many of the activities we had in the past. Old favorites like After School Enrichment, Fall Festival and Movie Nights are on the calendar. However, we are also very familiar with being flexible if situations change and we hope you will be understanding if we need to pivot.

The entire PTA Board is committed to making sure that we work together to help all of our kids succeed, academically and emotionally. This year we intend to reconnect with our families and our school, and renew our sense of community whenever possible. Please take the time to connect with us, in whatever way works best for you. In addition to checking for information in your child’s backpack, please:

  • Read the weekly school e-newsletter (the Eagle) from Mr. Bean. If you do not receive the Eagle after the first couple weeks of school, email cnparry@seattleschools.org.
  • Visit the OVPTA website regularly (www.ovpta.org), where we keep an up to date calendar and other information. You can even translate the page into many languages (scroll to the bottom to find the Google translate button).
  • Sign up to receive the PTA e-newsletter or find the link on the ovpta website.
  • Join the Friends of Olympic View Facebook Group, managed by the OV PTA, where you can ask questions of fellow parents. Follow the OV PTA on Facebook and on Instagram.
  • Come to our PTA meetings, even if you aren’t a member of the PTA. Check the PTA website, Facebook, the Eagle, and the PTA newsletter for details.

There are many ways that you can support your child and our school. We want every family to feel that they are part of our community, and we want the PTA to be representative of all of us. We can’t do that unless we all participate in our own way. Your voice and opinion are important, and whether you come to meetings or prefer to contact PTA Board members individually, we want to hear from you. What can the PTA do to make OV even better? How can we help all of our children succeed?

Please consider becoming a paid member of the Olympic View Parent Teacher Association. Membership strengthens the voice of our community, helps support the WA State and National PTAs, and allows you to vote on OV PTA matters, including how to spend the money we fundraise. Scholarships are available, if you need one. We’ve put together some additional helpful information Information Sheet listed below.

Welcome to Olympic View!

Sincerely,

Andrea Chaddock
President, OVPTA

Olympic View PTA Information Sheet 2022-2023:

What does the PTA do?

  • We raise money for the school. We give money to every teacher for classroom supplies, buy books for the library, grant money to the school every year, and fill in other gaps that aren’t covered by Seattle Public Schools.
  • We run, support, and fund programs that provide additional enrichment for our children. The enrichment events include Thursday After School Program, Choir, Art Docent, Spring Musical, and more.
  • We organize events for our students and community. We sponsor events, such as Movie Nights, Arts Night, Mariners events, Fall Festival, Familypalooza, Teacher Appreciation Week, and so many others.
  • We give the community a unified voice. We are the parent/guardian community and want to represent all of us. We make sure everyone is part of decision-making and all are heard. We also represent our community as voting members of the Building Leadership Team (BLT).
