Dear Families,
Superintendent Technology Usage Update: Last week, Superintendent Shuldiner announced a shift in technology use for K-2 students beginning January 4.
- Although students will have access to iPads, there will be assigned devices through a 1:1 device model.
- Students’ use of the iPad will be limited to 0-30 minutes a day.
Orange Shirt Day: On Wednesday we are honoring Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day, observed annually on September 30, honors the Indigenous children who suffered in residential and boarding schools and promotes the truth that “Every Child Matters”. Please join me in wearing orange on this day.
Upcoming Superintendent Community Engagement Meetings: The superintendent will be hosting a series of meetings around the following topics.
- Academic Rigor
- School Design (Neighborhood School, Option Schools, Dual Language, HC, etc.)
- School Safety and Security
The first two meetings are in the northeast region.
- Sept. 29 at Thornton Creek Elementary School (7712 40th Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98115)
- Oct. 27 at Eagle Staff Middle School (1330 N 90th St., Seattle, WA 98103)
Start Time is 7:55 a.m.: Please make sure your child is at school by 7:55 a.m.. Students thrive best when they are with their class and start the day with predictable routines. Also, please don’t drop your child off before 7:40 a.m. because there is no supervision.
Drop Off Safety Reminders: Because of all the congestion at drop-off please do the following:
- 95th should be one direction, moving east to west (towards the Olympic mountains). Cars moving the other way clog the road.
- Drop off your student at the “Drop and Dash Zone” in front of Collaboration Station
- Students should exit the car on the sidewalk side of the car
- Do not park or get out of the car. This creates backups and causes cars to weave in and out.
- Please be patient around the roundabout to keep our student crossing guards safe.
Back to School Night: On Tuesday October 6, at 6 p.m., we will have our annual “Back to School Night.”

Flying Forward Fund Direct Ask Campaign – Starts October 1
This coming Thursday is October 1st and marks the beginning of the Olympic View PTA (OVPTA)’s direct ask campaign, the Flying Forward Fund.
Be on the lookout for a blue envelope coming home in kid mail this week. All money raised goes directly towards Olympic View. Your tax deductible contribution is vital to helping support and fund:
- Arts Enrichment and Arts Night
- Teacher Classroom Needs
- Family Engagement Activities
- Library Books
- PE Equipment
- Supplies for Multi-Arts
- Grants to Olympic View (field trips, support, etc.)
- After School Program
- And much, much more!
The 2026 Flying Forward Fund goal is to raise $20,000. Please make donations by returning the blue envelope to school or donating online starting Thursday.

After School Enrichment – Registration open until October 2
Registration for the After School Enrichment Fall Quarter is OPEN through October 2 at Hall of Fame Team Camp website (new families will need to create a Parent Dashboard account).
Fall Quarter classes will run on Thursdays, 2:40-3:40 p.m. from October 15 through December 10.

- 1-on-1 Soccer (2nd – 5th grade)
- Bricks 4 Kids: Jurassic Brick Land (K – 2nd grade)
- Chess Mates (1st – 5th grade)
- Mini Movers Hip Hop (K – 2nd grade)

Free UW Athletics Tickets
The OVPTA has FREE tickets to many UW athletics events again this year! Please use the link below to request tickets for your family. Tickets are distributed a few days before the event. (Are you able to help with this distribution task? Please reach out to the PTA!).

Author Ben Clanton visits OV – Tuesday, October 13!
Thanks to the success of our Read-a-thon last year, author Ben Clanton will be visiting with our Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders on Tuesday, October 13th. You may know Ben from his ever-popular Narwhal and Jelly books. Ben is both an author and illustrator and often engages students by connecting their ideas with his drawings.
OV Library has partnered with Third Place Books to offer six of Ben’s books available for families to purchase. Ben will sign the books to your student on the day of his visit and students will be able to keep these treasured books. If you would like to purchase a book, please click on the link to the Third Place Books. Of course, all Ben Clanton books will also be available for check out in the Olympic View Library.

Fall Festival – October 23
The Olympic View Fall Festival is right around the corner! Get ready to play fun games and win prizes, explore the haunted house, enjoy the cake walk, photo booth, cotton candy, bake-off, and chili cook-off.
Volunteers Needed!! Volunteer slots are now open to help with setup, cleanup, and running both shifts at the Fall Festival. Have no fear, you’ll still have plenty of time to enjoy the event! Older siblings and friends are welcome to help as well, it’s a great way to earn service hours!

The PTA has a new Google calendar on our website. You can find all PTA related events here and subscribe to add them to your own calendar.
Become a PTA Member
Last year we grew our membership to 99 and we are hoping to break 100 this year. Joining the PTA helps us connect and gives you a voice but doesn’t require anything beyond sign up. Memberships are $20 per person per year and should be renewed every year – scholarships available. It is also not limited to parents but can include teachers, spouses, grandparents, friends and neighbors. This year we have an adorable Beaky sticker as our membership incentive, designed by OV parent Billy Thompson.

Volunteer Opportunities
Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)
The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests it. The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week. We are looking for volunteers to help on Friday afternoons from about 1:30-2:15 p.m. If you are able to help during this timeframe, please sign up.

General Information
Late Arrivals to School
If your student is late (the bell rings at 7:55 a.m.), please drop them off at the NE 95th Street entrance near the flagpole or blacktop. We now have a call box at the 95th Street entrance. After the bell rings at 7:55 a.m., all students must be signed in with office staff. The 8th Ave call box entrance will be used for staff only.
Absences
If your student will not be at school, please email the attendance email olympicview.attendance@seattleschools.org or call 202-252-5504 to let office staff know.
Early Pick Up
Parents/Guardians should come to the 95th Street security call box entrance. We are unable to call students down to the office until you arrive for pick up.
Pick Up Changes
If your student will have an alternate plan for pick up, please contact the office via email olympicview@seattleschools.org, phone 206-252-5500, Talking Points message, or a signed note with your student.
Our breakfast and lunch menus are now up on the SPS website!

Choose from Kids, Women, and Men’s sizes. We have t-shirts, long sleeved, crewnecks and hoodies all available in many colors.
Membership strengthens the voice of our community, helps support the WA State and National PTAs, and allows you to vote on OV PTA matters, including how to spend the money we fundraise. Scholarships are available, if you need one.
For all illnesses, including COVID, please keep students home if:
- They have uncontrollable secretions from their eyes or nose
- They cannot control their cough
- Their symptoms are improving
- They are fever, diarrhea, vomit free for at least 24 hours, without the use of medication
COVID testing is no longer required.
