The Eagle Newsletter – Week of January 23

Summary: Published weekly, check out The Eagle for the latest news and events, including Principal Bean's weekly letter to families.

Dear Families,

Artist Residencies: Because of the generous support of our families and community, the PTA has raised money to pay for Artist in Residency experiences for each grade level. I wanted to highlight that a couple of these opportunities began last week and will continue on for the next several weeks.

  • Second grade is learning about Western African Drumming through Sister Samayya!
  • Fifth grade has a unit on clowning with Sarah Liane Foster! (I got to participate with one of the classes on Friday and it was such a blast. Students were developing their own clown identity by creating their own walks/facial expressions!

Virtual School Tours: On Thursday, February 2 we will have our virtual School Tour for prospective families. Please follow this link: Olympic View Virtual Open House

Black Lives Matter At School Week: In February we will be celebrating Black History month and we will also actively participate in Black Lives Matter at School week from February 6-10.

SPS Budget Deficit: Seattle Public Schools (SPS) is facing a significant projected budget deficit for the next school year. On Wednesday, Jan. 25, the Seattle School Board held a budget work session. The video recording of session has been posted on the district website. Learn more about the deficit and budget timeline.

Meaningful Movies Project Screening of “Chasing Childhood” I am partnering with The Meaningful Movies Project, a West Seattle, a non-profit organization that uses the power of social justice documentary film and conversation to build positive and meaningful community and a more just and peaceful world.

Below is the link for the screening of the film “Chasing Childhood”, which focuses on how we help our children become more resilient to face the challenging days ahead. For more information, you can follow this link:
