Dear Families,
November School Virtue: Our attribute of a changemaker virtue for November will be bravery/service.
Combined Virtue/Veterans Day Assembly: We will connect our November virtue of bravery/service with our Veterans Day Assembly. I want to especially welcome any family that have served our country! If you have a family member that you would like to recognize, email Ms. Sabrina at snobrien@seattleschools.org. Submissions are due by Thursday, October 31.
November is Native Heritage Month: This month our school will focus on celebrating the amazing contributions, as well as having courageous conversations around how Native communities have suffered because of colonization.
Native Heritage Story/Dance Assembly: On November 19 we will have an assembly featuring Native American Storyteller Roger Fernandez. He is also the artist that will be creating our Land Acknowledge mural installation project.
MLL Family Coffee and Conversation: On Friday, our amazing MLL (Multi-Language Learner) team led by Rachel Modi, will be hosting a coffee and conversation event on Friday, November 8 right after drop off in room 205.
Well Resourced Schools Update: The Superintentent announced that his recommendation for school closures to the School Board will be the following:
- Northwest Region: Closing – North Beach Elementary
Consolidating with Viewlands Elementary at Viewlands
- Northeast Region: Closing – Sacajawea Elementary
Consolidating with John Rogers Elementary at John Rogers
- Central Region: Closing – Stevens Elementary
Consolidating with Montlake Elementary at Montlake
- Southwest Region: Closing – Sanislo Elementary
Consolidating with Highland Park Elementary at Highland Park
There is also one additional proposal that will impact OV. We are scheduled to get 2 preschool classes. One is from Sacajawea, and the other is from Sand Point.
No School on Veterans Day: Just a reminder that there is no school on Monday, November 11.
Family-Teacher Conferences: In the next couple of weeks your child’s teacher will be reaching out to schedule your family-teacher conference. They will be held November 25-27. Kraken Community Iceplex – FREE Skating Sunday, 10/27
In partnership with the Seattle Kraken, the OV PTA is proud to announce a FREE ice skating opportunity at the Kraken Community Iceplex (KCI) in Northgate on Sunday, October 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This event is open to the entire OV community – adults & kids!
We’ll have a check-in table setup in the main lobby where parents/guardians can fill out the waiver form to get skating wristbands for their family. There will be some skate aids available for use and a skate monitor from KCI. Kids are encouraged to bring helmets/safety gear if they have them (there will also be some helmets available for temporary use at the rink). Also, since its close to Halloween, feel free to wear your skating-friendly costume!
Please note: this is not a drop-off event – kids must be accompanied by an adult.

Aljoya Thornton Place – Sunday, 10/27
Invites Its Neighbors to trick-or-treat at their retirement community!
There will be soooo much candy and a kid’s game room.
Event is designed for kids 10 and under and must be accompanied by an adult.

Last Chance to Donate – Flying Forward Fund Direct Ask Campaign
We are in the LAST WEEK of our direct ask campaign, the Flying Forward Fund.
We have raised over 50% of our $20,000 goal. Thank you to all who have donated already! We still have a ways to go so keep those donations coming.
This is a great opportunity to explore if your company matches donations.
Please make donations by this Friday, November 1 via blue envelope or donate online.
With your tax deductible donation, the PTA can keep funding:

Dental Clinic Round Two! Friday, 11/1
We had so many students signed up to see the dentist for an assessment that we couldn’t see everyone in one day.
If you turned in your permission slip and your child wasn’t seen, they will get their chance on Friday, November 1.

Skating Starts 11/4 – 11/15 for students in grades 1st – 5th
Helmets, skates, and safety gear will be provided for all students. However, if students have their own helmet and it still fits, please have them bring it for the unit. Skates and other safety gear can be brought from home. Please label everything with student’s name. Volunteers are needed to help assist with getting the gear on.
All volunteers need to have district approval to volunteer in the classroom. Please allow 2 weeks for the paper work to be approved. Please sign in with the office and get a badge before you come down to the gym. Students will have the opportunity next week to practice getting gear on and skates.

Winter Coats
As the colder months are approaching, Olympic View is running a coat drive to ensure every child stays warm this winter. Your generosity will help provide a cozy layer of warmth for children who may not have adequate winter wear. Together, we can make a big difference in the lives of our students!
We would love for the coat drive to be fulfilled by the end of October, but we will run the drive until each child that needs a coat has one. If you would like to purchase elsewhere, feel free. Just please select a coat of same size and similar color and click “I bought this gift.” That will remove it from the registry, and you can drop it off or have it shipped to Olympic View. We are specifically looking for coats that are insulated, hooded, and water resistant.
**If you had previously signed your child up to RECEIVE a coat, please note that coats are being distributed as we get them.**
OV Movie Night – Inside Out 2 – Nov 15
Mark your calendars for our upcoming Fall OV Movie Night on Friday, November 15 featuring a showing of Pixar’s Inside Out 2 (96 minutes).
Doors open at 5 p.m. with the movie starting at 6 p.m.
Pizza, drinks, and snacks will be provided free of charge though we are asking for a small donation for those that can afford it to offset equipment rental and food costs (donation details coming soon).

Creative Advantage Arts Team
It is time to update our Creative Advantage arts team at Olympic View Elementary! The Creative Advantage is a city-wide initiative to establish equitable access to arts learning for all Seattle Public School students. It is the program that helps bring clowning, drumming, capoeira, and more to our students!
Participation Requirements:
- One 3-hr orientation at a north-end location (TBD) in early December.
- Two, 3-hr school planning meetings that are facilitated by a principal arts leadership coach to develop an arts vision and an action.
We need 1-2 parents/guardians, ideally someone who has a student in K-2 and are interested in staying in this role for 2-3 years.

Multicultural Potluck Planning Committee
We have our annual Multicultural Potluck planned for January 15, 2025 but need a planning committee. Our MLL Teacher, Rachel Modi, needs volunteers to help plan this wonderful community event. If we don’t have a committee, we don’t have an event. If this event is one that your family enjoys, please consider helping with planning. General Information
Late Arrivals to School
If your student is late (the bell rings at 7:55 a.m.), please drop them off at the NE 95th Street entrance near the flagpole or blacktop. We now have a call box at the 95th Street entrance. After the bell rings at 7:55 a.m., all students must be signed in with office staff. The 8th Ave call box entrance will be used for staff only.
Absences
If your student will not be at school, please email the attendance email olympicview.attendance@seattleschools.org or call 202-252-5504 to let office staff know.
Early Pick Up
Parents/Guardians should come to the 95th Street security call box entrance. We are unable to call students down to the office until you arrive for pick up.
Pick Up Changes
If your student will have an alternate plan for pick up, please contact the office via email olympicview@seattleschools.org, phone 206-252-5500, Talking Points message, or a signed note with your student.
Our breakfast and lunch menus are now up on the SPS website!

Spirit Gear: The Olympic View Spirit Wear online store is now open!
Choose from Kids, Women, and Men’s sizes. We have t-shirts, long sleeved, crewnecks and hoodies all available in many colors.
Membership strengthens the voice of our community, helps support the WA State and National PTAs, and allows you to vote on OV PTA matters, including how to spend the money we fundraise. Scholarships are available, if you need one.
With the first full week of school under our belts, students are starting to share germs and become sick.
For all illnesses, including COVID, please keep students home if:
- They have uncontrollable secretions from their eyes or nose
- They cannot control their cough
- Their symptoms are improving
- They are fever, diarrhea, vomit free for at least 24 hours, without the use of medication
COVID testing is no longer required.
We will be hosting a vaccine clinic at Olympic View on October 2, where all childhood vaccines, flu and COVID vaccines will be available at no cost to you.
If you would like to take action sooner, local pharmacies and doctors’ offices have the seasonal flu shot and pediatric COVID vaccines will become available over the next couple weeks. Adult COVID vaccines are currently available.
Please help keep our community healthy by keeping sick students home, practicing good hand washing, properly covering coughs and sneezes and maintaining vaccinations for preventable illness.
