The Eagle – Week of January 20

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families,

No School Tomorrow: MLK Day: Just a reminder that there will be no school tomorrow as we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.

Multi-Cultural Night: Our annual multi-cultural potluck is this Wednesday between 5:00-7:00 p.m. Families are encouraged to bring a dish that is connected with their cultural identities, as well as any traditional clothing. It is such a beautiful way for students to learn about the amazing diversity in the school and to share their own identity.

Important…Please fill out Family Income Status: In order for us to be a Title 1 school next year, I need every family to fill out the family income survey. On-Line Family Income Survey Link

Why is this Survey Important? The Family Income Survey provides Olympic View receive essential funding for our school including the following:

  • Free Breakfast and Lunch for all students
  • Full-time Counselor
  • Reading Interventionist Teacher
  • Access to free field trips
  • Additional funding for essential resources

The form is simple to fill out and confidential. The information will only be used to help your school receive funding from state and federal programs. Families with multiple students will only complete this form once. Additional information including translated digital and paper forms can be found on the MySPS CEP webpage

General PTA Meeting with Fentanyl Speaker coming soon: Our PTA is having a general meeting on Wednesday, January 29 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. I encourage all families to come, as they are inviting a guest speaker who will talk about the Fentanyl opioid crisis in our community and how to support our students as they transition into middle/high school.

Smart Watch/cell phone reminder: Please reinforce with your child that it is never okay to use these devices to call/text home during the day. All communication needs to come from the school. And please remind students that phones should be stored away.

In partnership,

Mr. Bean (he/him)

With the first full week of school under our belts, students are starting to share germs and become sick.

For all illnesses, including COVID, please keep students home if:

  • They have uncontrollable secretions from their eyes or nose
  • They cannot control their cough
  • Their symptoms are improving
  • They are fever, diarrhea, vomit free for at least 24 hours, without the use of medication

COVID testing is no longer required.

We will be hosting a vaccine clinic at Olympic View on October 2, where all childhood vaccines, flu and COVID vaccines will be available at no cost to you.

If you would like to take action sooner, local pharmacies and doctors’ offices have the seasonal flu shot and pediatric COVID vaccines will become available over the next couple weeks.  Adult COVID vaccines are currently available.

Please help keep our community healthy by keeping sick students home, practicing good hand washing, properly covering coughs and sneezes and maintaining vaccinations for preventable illness.

Thank you,

Nurse Angie
