The Eagle – Week of March 24
Letter from Principal Bean
Dear Families,
Arts Night an Amazing Success! I hope everyone was able to come to Arts Night last Wednesday. It was a huge success. The interactive art and the performances were so much fun. I want to thank the many volunteers who helped put this together with a huge thank you to Megan Domini, Cara Mattera, Angela Roh, Mariia Kuznetsova, as well as our music and art teachers, Olivia Helbach and Alan de la Cruz!
Native American Land Acknowledgement Art Installation Update: Last week, I mentioned that that Roger Fernandes, a Native American storyteller, artist, and educator (Lower Elwa Skallam tribe) was returning to OV to collaborate with students to create our Land Acknowledgement art installation project. Below is a picture of Roger working with our Native American affinity group.

Class Photos: Class photos will be on Thursday, April 3. Please don’t make any appointments for that day. It is so sad to see your child in the “not pictured” section.
Wizard of Oz: If you haven’t secured your tickets to the school play, please make sure to do it. Purchase your Wizard of Oz tickets. Scroll down the Eagle to get all the important information!
In partnership,
Mr. Bean (he/him)

Club Members will meet before school on Thursdays for some morning exercise and fun.
- 6:45 Kids arrive and get skates
- 6:50-7 Warm up
- 7-7:30 Ice Skate
- 7:35 Get off the ice
- 7:45 School bus to OV!
- 7:55 Arrive at OV
Morning exercise is great for our bodies and minds, helping us improve our focus at school. Participants will improve their ice skating skills, confidence, and practice personal responsibility.
This season we will be adding a Morning Workout Challenge, encouraging students to exercise before school to have a more successful school day.
Volunteers Needed! We need a minimum of 3 volunteers for the program to run each day. Volunteer’s job will be to welcome students and check them in, help kids get skates on and off, get them on the bus to school, and most of all be a positive influence!
Note: this is a different than Wednesday “Learn to Skate” program. This program encourages exercise before school as a healthy habit, that leads to success in school.

Lost and Found News
Dear OV Families,
Can you please put names on your kids jackets? In Ms. Schwab’s class we collect the jackets left on the playground and bring them inside.
We return them to your kids classrooms if their name is on it. Can you tell your child if they are not going to wear their jackets do not bring them outside?
Sincerely,
Brooke

If you’ve been hoarding books since 2015, (you have a lot?) reach out to us for additional ways to drop them off, or we’ll come pick them up. Email Andrea at amchaddock@gmail.com

OVPTA Surplus Grants for 2024-2025
The PTA Board and membership decided that we can fund some surplus grants this year! Do you have an idea that supports the OVPTA mission and goals, but you need funds to make it happen? Have you identified a need that could be filled using some PTA money? The PTA has designated up to $10,000 to be spent on projects executed by our OV community members. That means YOU, our OV staff and our OV families, can submit a proposal for a project you’ll spearhead! In past years, these mini grants have funded classroom books, equipment upgrades, outdoor projects, and end of year activities. We’ll be trying to prioritize projects that benefit the most OV students and have longevity, but don’t be afraid to submit a proposal for something outside-the-box! Does it make OV even more amazing than it already is? Let’s hear it!
We’ll collect proposals and the PTA Board will approve some (but not all) proposals each month until the end of the year, or until we reach our spending limit. After each board meeting, we’ll let everyone know what we decided.
Don’t be intimidated by the proposal, it is just our process to get the information, it does not have to be a professional-looking grant!
Please email advocacy@ovpta.org with any questions or if you’d like to submit your proposal via paper form.
