The Eagle – Week of December 16

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families,

Friday Early Release: Because of winter break, on Friday students get out at 1:25 p.m. Students will return from break on Monday, January 6.

Computer Devices Sent Home this Friday: On the last day of school before break (Friday), we will be sending home iPads/computers with each student. If schools end up being closed because of bad weather, we will do school remotely, similar to what happened during COVID. Your child’s teacher will send home communication on how to log on. Please return them when the break ends (with the chargers!)

Kindergarten Gingerbread Performance on Friday: Thanks to our amazing fundraising and focus on the arts, each grade level gets to participate in a unique artist-in-residence experience. Each kindergarten class has been creating their own version of the classic gingerbread story. They create their own gingerbread character, setting, problem/solution. At the same time, they actually act out the story while it is being read. They will have their performance on Friday at 8:15!

Field Trip Week:

  • Monday: First Grade to Aquarium
  • Wednesday: Fifth Grade to Kraken Complex
  • Thursday: Fourth Grade to Kraken Complex
  • Friday: Third Grade to Kraken Complex

School Starts at 7:55: Please make sure to get your child to school on time. When they walk in with the classroom from the playground, they feel so much more connected with their peers. Kids really thrive on a sense of belonging as well as routine and predictability.

In partnership,

Mr. Bean (he/him)

Free ice skating lessons after school Wednesdays, all grades!

The Kraken One Roof foundation has partnered with the PTA to provide free ice skating lessons for Olympic View Students!

Lessons will take place on Wednesdays after school, for eight weeks starting February 5.

REGISTRATION LASTS UNTIL DECEMBER 20. If more than 50 kids sign up a LOTTERY will be used to select skaters. If not selected, your skater will be able to have a spot in the second 8-week session starting in April. Families will be kept together.

Students will be picked up by bus immediately after school on Wednesdays, bussed to the ice rink, and provided with a 45 minute lesson. Then they will be bussed back to school for pick up.

Ice time, equipment rental, and lessons are FREE to all participants and all grades are welcome. Parents must pick their child up at 2:45 at Olympic View. We are also requiring parents to volunteer once per eight week session to help monitor things on the bus and tie up those ice skates. We will have two 8 week sessions for up to 50 kids each.

With the first full week of school under our belts, students are starting to share germs and become sick.

For all illnesses, including COVID, please keep students home if:

  • They have uncontrollable secretions from their eyes or nose
  • They cannot control their cough
  • Their symptoms are improving
  • They are fever, diarrhea, vomit free for at least 24 hours, without the use of medication

COVID testing is no longer required.

We will be hosting a vaccine clinic at Olympic View on October 2, where all childhood vaccines, flu and COVID vaccines will be available at no cost to you.

If you would like to take action sooner, local pharmacies and doctors’ offices have the seasonal flu shot and pediatric COVID vaccines will become available over the next couple weeks.  Adult COVID vaccines are currently available.

Please help keep our community healthy by keeping sick students home, practicing good hand washing, properly covering coughs and sneezes and maintaining vaccinations for preventable illness.

Thank you,

Nurse Angie
