The Eagle – Week of September 16

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families,

Eagle Way Parade: Thank you to all the families who showed up to cheer on the students for our annual Eagle Way parade. It was so much fun, and the crowd was huge. I want to give a big shout out to 5th graders Bella Sanyu, Eloise Drinan, and Griffin More who did a masterful job of emceeing the assembly.

School Closure Update: On Friday, I emailed families about the two proposed school closure scenarios. In both scenarios, Olympic View is not slated to be closed. However, there will be boundary changes that will impact our enrollment. Follow the link to find out more: Well-Resourced Schools

To see where your child would be enrolled with the proposed changes, use the interactive boundary change tool shown below.

Option B: Attendance Areas and Change Areas

School Supplies: Instead of families having to go through the trouble of searching for school supplies, the PTA bought them in bulk last spring. If you haven’t done so already, please help the PTA reimburse these costs here. Donate to OV School Supplies

Early Release Wednesdays: Just a reminder that from now on, every Wednesday, students will be released at 1:10 p.m.

Back to School Night: On Tuesday, September 24, at 6:00 p.m., we will have our annual “Back to School Night.”

Volunteering: Volunteer Application (Note: Please plan for it to take a week to process the information, so if you are planning on volunteering for a field trip, please plan ahead. I am unable to make exceptions.)

Respecting Neighbors: I have had multiple community members complain about OV families parking in front of driveways. This causes extreme anxiety because they can’t get out of their own driveway. Please take the additional minute to find a good parking spot.

In partnership,

Mr. Bean (he/him)

This Week’s News

School Supplies

While you were enjoying your summer, our Olympic View PTA shopped for deals and made bulk purchases of all the basic school supplies requested by OV teachers. These are the same items that would have appeared on your student’s School Supply lists.

Following the example of many other PTAs, we choose to do this at Olympic View to promote equity and to remove this burden from families. All classrooms will be stocked with the requested supplies and teachers will use and distribute them in the way that works best for their classroom.

The OVPTA has estimated that they spent about $40 per student this year on supplies. The cost if families had purchased these items individually would have been closer to $75 per student, so this bulk buy has saved families about $35 per student!

To contribute for your student: 2024-2025 School Supply Payment Link

Thank you and our Olympic View PTA for helping to make this equity project successful

A message from Nurse Angie

With the first full week of school under our belts, students are starting to share germs and become sick.  Please note the following guidelines about student illness, which also can be viewed on the SPS website.

For all illnesses, including COVID, please keep students home if:

  • They have uncontrollable secretions from their eyes or nose
  • They cannot control their cough
  • Their symptoms are improving
  • They are fever, diarrhea, vomit free for at least 24 hours, without the use of medication

COVID testing is no longer required.

We will be hosting a vaccine clinic at Olympic View on October 2, where all childhood vaccines, flu and COVID vaccines will be available at no cost to you.

If you would like to take action sooner, local pharmacies and doctors’ offices have the seasonal flu shot and pediatric COVID vaccines will become available over the next couple weeks.  Adult COVID vaccines are currently available.

Please help keep our community healthy by keeping sick students home, practicing good hand washing, properly covering coughs and sneezes and maintaining vaccinations for preventable illness.

Thank you,

Nurse Angie
