During School Programs
Art Docent
The Art Docent program is a PTA sponsored art enrichment for all students at all grade levels. Jenny Hellman, OV Artist in Residence, designs lessons that allow students to study and practice the skills of an artist, from ancient to modern eras. Jenny creates art lessons that span materials, as well technique, so all students can experience what the artist created. Art Docent Lessons happen in the classroom five times throughout the year and are taught by community volunteers (Docents). The pieces students create are displayed outside their classrooms. One of the lessons will have students contribute to a whole school display in the main hallway north of the front office.
The Art Docent program is always looking for more volunteers (Docents) — it is a great way to know your student’s class and see the enthusiasm for this outstanding program. All Art Docents receive training to teach the lesson, support to complete the lesson, and materials to display the student art (no experience required). Please contact ovdocents@gmail.com for more details or to sign up.
Instrumental Music
Instrumental music is offered to 5th grade students. The program is designed to provide an introduction to and appreciation of instrumental music by providing 30 minutes of instruction each week in a number of different percussion, string and wind instruments.
Safety Patrol
Interested 5th grade students may apply to be a member of our school safety patrol. The safety patrol helps to direct traffic and serve as crossing guards on the intersection at 8th and 95th NE.
After-School Programs
OVPTA After School Enrichment Program
The After School Enrichment program offers hour-long classes, after school on Thursdays. Students of all grade levels have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities such as circus arts, dance, chess, basketball, drama, art, keyboard piano and more! Classes take place at Olympic View and are taught by local vendors. Tuition averages $140 for 8 weeks of classes. Many scholarships are available thanks to the generosity of our PTA community. This program is made possible by the efforts of parent volunteers, PTA support, and staff contributions.
Choir
This opportunity is for third, fourth, and fifth grade students who like to sing, perform, and have fun. In this choir we will be working not only on musical skills, but also lifelong skills such as cooperation/teamwork, patience, perseverance, and growth mindset. Scholarships are available.
OVPTA Drama Production
Olympic View has a PTA sponsored drama program that includes 3rd-5th grade students, both on stage and off. The audition process starts in October/November and rehearsals run 3 times a week for 2 hours from January until the performances in March/April. We have 3 performances at a local school theater, including 1 matinee show. Since the 2014 production of School House Rock Jr. We have had Jeremy Behrens as our Director and Choreographer and Adam Quillian as our Musical Director and Voice Coach. In the following years our students shined on the stage in The Lion King Jr., Seussical the Musical Jr., Beauty and the Beast Jr., The Little Mermaid Jr. and most recently students graced our electronic devices in the online production of The Show Must Go Online.
Parent support is key to making these productions possible. Volunteering can happen by helping with set pieces, costumes, carpooling or chaperoning students and backstage help during the performances.
