Dear Families,

Thank You for the Amazing Staff Appreciation Week! Thank you for pampering us all last week. Each day was something different and special, from Ben and Jerry’s ice cream to delicious meals, to coffee/pastries. In addition, the teachers truly appreciated your generous donations through the Amazon wish list!! It is so special being part of a community such as OV.

Happy Mother’s Day: To all the moms out there, I hope your children treat you well this Sunday. You deserve it!!

Volunteers: Thank you for helping our students grow! May 28

We invite you to our Volunteer Recognition Assembly and Reception! All year long, you selflessly dedicate time to our school and we want to celebrate each of you!

Each year we recognize those volunteers who have gone above and beyond for our Olympic View Community. Nominations are being accepted for the following awards:

  • Ada Snyder Award: An award given to a senior citizen to recognize their service to the Olympic View community.
  • Golden Acorn Award: An award presented to a volunteer in recognition of their dedication and outstanding service to the youth in the Olympic View community. This person will likely have donated their time in multiple classrooms and have helped many OV staff and students. It is to recognize volunteer service “above and beyond” a particular job description.
  • L.O.V.E. Award: The Lifetime Olympic View Elementary Award. An award recognizing individuals who have given countless hours of time to Olympic View, whether it be in classrooms, the office, the building, the neighborhood, etc. This would be someone who has gone beyond the normal scope of their job to enhance the entire community at Olympic View. This could be a teacher, staff member, volunteer, student, etc.

Please join us on Wednesday, May 28 at 8:10 a.m. in the cafeteria for our assembly, with a reception immediately to follow.

Olympic View Field Day is Friday, June 6!

Field Day is coming up, and we are so excited! Field Day will be held on Friday, June 6, starting with lunch and moving into the afternoon outdoor activities with 16 stations. To make this day successful, we need volunteers who can help make this a day to remember for all our students. We need lots of sidewalk chalk, lunch helpers, and volunteers to help run the Field Day stations. All students will get a free lunch if they choose to have the lunch offered.

This is such a great time for our Olympic View Community to join in on the fun! Please volunteer and help make one of our favorite days a success. See you there!

All volunteers must be registered with Seattle Public Schools. To update your volunteer status for this year or to complete your volunteer application, go to the SPS Volunteer web page.

Please contact Kristel Gonzales at k.linnes@gmail.com, Chad Cabigting at chad.cabigting@gmail.com or Mrs. Bruecher at bhbruecher@seattleschools.org with any questions.

OVPTA seeks the future of PTA Leadership!

We’re sad to see a lot of our current volunteers graduating soon – are you ready to step in and give back to OV by joining the PTA Board? We want to ensure that all your favorite OV activities continue on!

Volunteering on the PTA Board is a great way to get to know your OV community and be a part of making OV the amazing place we love so much!! Our Board meets monthly and is supportive and friendly!! We can usually arrange childcare so you can attend a meeting, and we usually offer a virtual meeting option, if you just can’t make it in person. We want to make it easy to be a part of the Board – so let us know what you need!

Look for info in upcoming Eagle newsletters on board recruitment events or just reach out today!

We’re looking to fill the following Board positions: Co-President, Co-Treasurer, Co-Fundraising Director, Co-Activities Director, and Co-Enrichment Director.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Chelsea and Chad at president@ovpta.org and we’re happy to chat!

With the first full week of school under our belts, students are starting to share germs and become sick.

For all illnesses, including COVID, please keep students home if:

  • They have uncontrollable secretions from their eyes or nose
  • They cannot control their cough
  • Their symptoms are improving
  • They are fever, diarrhea, vomit free for at least 24 hours, without the use of medication

COVID testing is no longer required.

We will be hosting a vaccine clinic at Olympic View on October 2, where all childhood vaccines, flu and COVID vaccines will be available at no cost to you.

If you would like to take action sooner, local pharmacies and doctors’ offices have the seasonal flu shot and pediatric COVID vaccines will become available over the next couple weeks.  Adult COVID vaccines are currently available.

Please help keep our community healthy by keeping sick students home, practicing good hand washing, properly covering coughs and sneezes and maintaining vaccinations for preventable illness.

Thank you,

Nurse Angie
