The Eagle – Week of September 8

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families

Welcome Kindergarten Families: Tomorrow, we welcome our kindergarten students to OV for the first time. Please be prepared for heavier traffic and fewer parking spaces. Please see how you can help under the “Car Drop-Off” section below.

Kindergarten Familypalooza: Please join us for “Kindergartenpalooza” in the cafeteria after drop-off on Wednesday for coffee and pastries, and to hear from me and the PTA!

Eagle Way Parade: We will have our annual Eagle Way Parade on Friday morning at 8:30 AM. Please come cheer on the students as we walk around the block. “The Eagle Way” is our school motto. At OV, we “Take care of ourselves, each other, and our school!”

Family Connections Meetings: During the next three Wednesdays, teachers will be having family connection meetings with all families. This is a great way for us to build strong relationships. We really want to hear from you about your hopes and dreams, the brilliance of your child, and anything else that you think is important.

Wednesday Early Release: Just a reminder that moving forward every Wednesday students get out at 1:10 PM.

Free Breakfast/Lunch: As a Title 1 school, all students are eligible for a free lunch and breakfast!

Back to School Night: On Thursday, September 25, at 6:00 PM, we will have our annual “Back to School Night.”

Car Drop-Off

This is always our most busy/congested time of school, so please make sure you give yourself more time if you are dropping off as you might need to walk a few blocks to find a parking space. Please be considerate of our neighbors and follow our drop-off procedures.

  • Do not park and walk your kid to the playground in the bus/drop-off zone. (All the red on the map below). If you park it, creates road congestion
  • Drive-thru drop-off only on 95th street next to Collaboration Station (inside the blue circle in the map). Please do not get out of the car. Make sure your child is ready to go and leaves promptly on the passenger side of the car. (The drop off is in the section)

Visitors: Starting this year, all visitors will have to electronically sign in at the office using our new system. This will print off an identification badge. Please ring the bell next to the north end doors (by the flagpole).

Volunteering: Volunteers should go to the Volunteer Application Page and complete every step or confirm that they are current with their application.

In partnership,

Mr. Bean (he/him)

Art Docents Needed!

What is an Art Docent? A Docent is a parent or community member who volunteers to teach a pre-written, materials-prepared lesson by our Artist in Residence, Jenny Hellmann. As a Docent, you will receive a lesson on the artist, and an opportunity to try the project inspired by the artist for yourself, before presenting it to the children. These projects typically take an hour for the lesson and project combined. The total time commitment, including training, is about an hour, to an hour and a half, a month.

The Art Docent Program is beloved by the children and is a way to help supplement and support arts education for all our families at Olympic View. Please contact Laura Rogneby at ovdocents@gmail.com for more information on this program.

Fall Festival – October 17

The Olympic View Fall Festival is right around the corner! Get ready to play fun games and win prizes, explore the haunted house, enjoy the cake walk, photo booth, cotton candy, bake-off, and chili cook-off.

To help plan this great event and OV tradition, please contact Rob Wilson at wilson5113@gmail.com. We’d love help with adding new food choices, and bringing other new ideas to life.

Membership strengthens the voice of our community, helps support the WA State and National PTAs, and allows you to vote on OV PTA matters, including how to spend the money we fundraise. Scholarships are available, if you need one.

With the first full week of school under our belts, students are starting to share germs and become sick.

For all illnesses, including COVID, please keep students home if:

  • They have uncontrollable secretions from their eyes or nose
  • They cannot control their cough
  • Their symptoms are improving
  • They are fever, diarrhea, vomit free for at least 24 hours, without the use of medication

COVID testing is no longer required.

We will be hosting a vaccine clinic at Olympic View on October 2, where all childhood vaccines, flu and COVID vaccines will be available at no cost to you.

If you would like to take action sooner, local pharmacies and doctors’ offices have the seasonal flu shot and pediatric COVID vaccines will become available over the next couple weeks.  Adult COVID vaccines are currently available.

Please help keep our community healthy by keeping sick students home, practicing good hand washing, properly covering coughs and sneezes and maintaining vaccinations for preventable illness.

Thank you,

Nurse Angie
