The Eagle – Week of September 9

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families,

We had an incredibly positive first week of school. I couldn’t have asked for a smoother start! I am super excited to welcome kindergarteners tomorrow!

Familypalooza: Please join us for “Familypalooza” in the cafeteria after drop-off on Monday for coffee and pastries, and to hear from me and the PTA!

Eagle Way Parade: We will have our annual Eagle Way Parade on Friday morning at 8:30. Please come cheer on the students as we walk around the block. “The Eagle Way” is our school motto. At OV, we “Take care of ourselves, each other, and our school!”

School Supplies: In an effort to provide all students the same materials, the PTA has purchased school supplies in bulk. Please help the PTA reimburse these costs. Donate to OV School Supplies

Early Release Wednesdays: Just a reminder that from now on, every Wednesday, students will be released at 1:10.

Family Connections Meetings: During the next three Wednesdays, teachers will be having family connection meetings with all families. This is a great way for us to build strong relationships. We really want to hear from you about your hopes and dreams, the brilliance of your child, and anything else that you think is important.

Back to School Night: On Tuesday, September 24, at 6:00, we will have our annual “Back to School Night.”

Car Drop-Off

  • Please do not block driveways or mailboxes.
  • Please do not make U-turns on 95th. It is just too narrow a street. Not only is it potentially dangerous, but it also creates traffic jams.
  • Drive-thru drop-off only on 95th Street next to Collaboration Station. Please do not get out of the car. Make sure your child is ready to go and leaves promptly from the passenger side of the car.

Visitors: Please ring the bell at the south entrance (95th Street) near the flagpole. After being let into the building, sign in at the office and collect a visitor’s badge.

Volunteering: Volunteers complete every step or confirm that they are current with their application. (Note: Please plan for it to take a week to process the information, so if you are planning on volunteering for a field trip, please plan ahead. I am unable to make exceptions.)

In partnership,

Mr. Bean (he/him)

ToothSavers Oral Health Program Information

Date: September 19, 2024

Easy & Convenient

Great news! Our school has partnered with ToothSavers to offer dental care at school.

Best of all, in most cases there is no cost to you if your child is insured with Medicaid/CHIP! Most private insurances are accepted. We have affordable self-pay options as well. If your child is uninsured, they are eligible to receive our services free of charge!

Easy & Convenient

Having your child seen by the dentist at school saves you valuable time. Top quality care is provided by local, licensed hygienists in the familiar surroundings of your child’s school. Dental care can include an oral health screening, fluoride varnish, sealants, and silver diamine fluoride (SDF).

Volunteer Opportunities

Library Volunteers Wanted

Calling all volunteers!  We are looking for a few parents who would be willing to volunteer in the library. Volunteers will help pick up books from classrooms, check books in, and return books to their shelves.  Occasional special project may also arise throughout the year and your help would be greatly appreciated.

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)

The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests one. The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week. We need volunteers to help with packing on Friday mornings from about 8:00-9:00 am. If you are able to help during this timeframe, we would be grateful for your help!

We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time. Questions? Contact k.linnes@gmail.com

We also need plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store).  If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
