The Eagle – Week of January 08

The Eagle – Week of January 8

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families

Purple and Gold Day Monday: In honor of the Washington Huskies playing in the national championship, I am proclaiming that Monday will be purple and gold day. I know this will be traumatic for the Ducks and Cougars out there!

School Virtue for January: Our Virtue of a Changemaker theme for January will be about understanding and embracing our own and each other’s multiple identities.

Virtue Assembly: First grade will be featured this month as they teach other students about why understanding our own and each other’s identities is so important.

Spirit Day Wednesday: This Wednesday we have our monthly spirt day and it will ironically be sports day! Hopefully someone will have a Husky National Champion t-shirt!

Advanced Learning: This month the district is identifying 1st-5th grade students who might be eligible for advanced learning. Nothing needs to be done by families as the district uses assessments already used by the district and by students identified by teachers. Learn more about Advanced Learning

3rd-5th Grade Field Trip to Winter Classic Skating Rink at T-Mobile Field: What an amazing field trip this was. I rarely get the opportunity to go on a field trip, but there was no way I was going to miss out on this one!!! Thank you to Lucy Cooley for spearheading the field trip and to all the chaperones who made this happen.

Report Cards: Report cards are now available on The Source.

In Partnership!

Multicultural Potluck Friday, 1/19

5-7:30pm, OV Cafeteria – Everyone is invited, as we get together for a fun night of sharing our favorite and special foods with each other! You are encouraged to bring a dish to share, homemade or store bought, to represent your own cultures and traditions. Flyers will be coming home via Kidmail (or available at the event) so that you can share with us why this food is meaningful to you. We can’t wait to try all the amazing foods! Volunteer Opportunities

Library Volunteers Wanted

Calling all volunteers!  We are looking for a few parents who would be willing to volunteer in the library. Volunteers will help pick up books from classrooms, check books in, and return books to their shelves.  Occasional special project may also arise throughout the year and your help would be greatly appreciated.

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)

The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests one. The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week. We need volunteers to help with packing on Friday mornings from about 8:00-9:00 am. If you are able to help during this timeframe, we would be grateful for your help!

We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time. Questions? Contact k.linnes@gmail.com

We also need plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store).  If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
