The Eagle – Week of September 25

Message from Principal Bean

Dear Families,

Back to School Night on Thursday: Please join us this Thursday from 6:00-7:00 p.m. for our annual “Back to School Night.” Last year we replaced our more formal curriculum nights with a more informal relational experience that was well received. This makes it easier for families to see all their kids’ teachers, as well as for students to share what they are learning in school! (Teachers will still provide packets that will explain the curriculum).

Family Income Surveys: If you have not filled out your family income survey, please fill out the link below.

Family Income Survey Please complete and return this form. Families with multiple students will only complete this form once.

Why is this Survey Important? The Family Income Survey provides your student’s school with a way to collect household income information. This information is important because it helps your school receive federal and state funding.

The form is simple to fill out and confidential. The information will only be used to help your school receive funding from state and federal programs.

In addition to healthy and nutritious meals, the Family Income Survey also helps to fund school programs such as:

  • Before and after school enrichment programs
  • School counselors
  • Health and wellness services
  • Resources for classrooms and teachers

Partnership with Operation Warm: OV will be partnering with Operation Warm in early November. Operation Warm is a national nonprofit that manufactures brand-new, high-quality coats and shoes for children in need. This will be an event where every student will receive a brand-new fitted coat and a pair of shoes. Although not all students necessarily need them, our plan is for each child to go through the process and then we would ask families to donate them if they are not needed.  (We do not have to do a coat drive this year!!)

Partnership with Ballard OfficeMax: We have partnered with OfficeMax. Customers are asked if they would like to donate to a Title 1 Seattle school. All funds raised from this store go to OV! In August I purchased over $2500 in school supplies (about 2 carts full). In November, I will receive another opportunity which could be up to $5000. I encourage families to support this business for their office needs!

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed

The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests it.  The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week.  We need volunteers to help with packing and occasionally picking up food from the food bank. If you are interested in helping in any way, please contact Kristel Gonzales k.linnes@gmail.com. Last year we packed Thursday afternoons, but can adjust the day/time depending on volunteer availability.

Join the PTA! Be a Voice in Your Child’s School!

Join the PTA because increasing our membership, even by one, makes it easier to provide important educational resources, speak up on important issues and create a stronger school community.

The only thing required of you to be a member of the PTA is to pay the annual membership dues of $15 (scholarships always available). Beyond that, however you choose to PTA is up to you. Opportunities include attending quarterly PTA meetings, providing input and voting on PTA initiatives, volunteering at PTA events and fundraisers, participating in advocacy efforts, and holding PTA leadership roles.

Join or renew your PTA membership For questions or scholarship requests, please email membership@ovpta.org
