The Eagle – Spring Break Edition

The Eagle – Spring Break Edition

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families,

Spring Break: Just a reminder that spring break is this week, April 8-12. I hope you have time to spend with your family.

Report Cards: Report cards will be available on the Source on Monday, April 8. The Source

Move-a-thon: This Friday is our annual Move-a-thon fundraiser event! Make sure that your child has good running shoes as well as a water bottle.

Land Acknowledgement Art Installation: The OV Arts Committee is going to replace some of the art in the cafeteria that is from years ago. The four-panel art installation will feature the Land Acknowledgement and be inspired by coastal Native American themes. The PTA is in the process of commissioning a local Native American artist for the project. As part of the process, we are co-designing the project by getting inspiration from OV’s own Native American/Native Alaskan students and their families. Here is a picture from the affinity meeting we had last week!

SBA Testing: SBA testing is just around the corner. Please do not schedule appointments during this time:

  • 3rd and 4th grade: April 29th– May 10th
  • 5th Grade: May 13th– May 31st

April Changemaker Virtue: This month we will focus on the idea of responsibility/ownership.

Plant Sale: The plant sale is just around the corner. It will be on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27.

In Partnership!

Staff Appreciation Week

Staff Appreciation Week is coming May 6-10!

Hello Olympic View Families! Yes, of course we’ll be doing EVERYONE’S FAVORITE: Staff Lunches! But would you like to help plan some other ways to show our staff what they mean to us? Time’s ticking to make your ideas a reality. Reach out to president@ovpta.org if you can help make this the best Staff Appreciation Week ever!

OVPTA seeks the future of PTA Leadership!!

We’re sad to see a lot of our current volunteers graduating soon – are you ready to step in and give back to OV by joining the PTA Board? We want to ensure that all your favorite OV activities continue on!

Volunteering on the PTA Board is a great way to get to know your OV community and be a part of making OV the amazing place we love so much!! Our Board meets monthly and is supportive and friendly!! We can usually arrange childcare so you can attend a meeting, and we usually offer a virtual meeting option, if you just can’t make it in person. We want to make it easy to be a part of the Board – so let us know what you need!

Please join us for a casual get-together on Wednesday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. Location TBD. Anyone who is considering a PTA Board position next year can come and hang out and ask questions of the current Board members. We hope to see you there!

We’re looking to fill the following Board positions: Co-President, Co-Treasurer, Co-Fundraising Director, Co-Activities Director, and Co-Enrichment Director. Click here to see what positions you can help with!

If you have any questions, please reach out to Andrea and Chad at president@ovpta.org and we’re happy to chat!

OVPTA Surplus Grants for 2023-2024!

The PTA Board is still funding surplus grants this year!

Do you have an idea that supports the OVPTA mission and goals, but you need funds to make it happen? The PTA has designated up to $20,000 to be spent on projects executed by our OV community members. That means YOU, our OV staff and our OV families, can submit a proposal for a project you’ll spearhead! In past years, these mini-grants have funded classroom books, equipment upgrades, outdoor projects, and end of year activities. We’ll be trying to prioritize projects that benefit the most OV students and have longevity, but don’t be afraid to submit a proposal for something outside-the-box! Does it make OV even more amazing than it already is? Let’s hear it! We’ll collect proposals, ask for PTA membership input, and the PTA Board will approve some (but not all) proposals each month until the end of the year, or we reach our spending limit. You can find more details and fill out your proposal here: Surplus Grants.

Don’t be intimidated by the proposal, it is just our process to get the information, it does not have to be a professional-looking grant.

The PTA Board will vote on proposals submitted in March during our April Board meeting. Please provide feedback on those proposals here.

Please email president@ovpta.org with questions or if you’d like to submit your proposal via paper form.

Volunteer Opportunities

Library Volunteers Wanted

Calling all volunteers!  We are looking for a few parents who would be willing to volunteer in the library. Volunteers will help pick up books from classrooms, check books in, and return books to their shelves.  Occasional special project may also arise throughout the year and your help would be greatly appreciated.

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)

The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests one. The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week. We need volunteers to help with packing on Friday mornings from about 8:00-9:00 am. If you are able to help during this timeframe, we would be grateful for your help!

We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time. Questions? Contact k.linnes@gmail.com

We also need plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store).  If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
