The Eagle – Week of September 11
Message from Principal Bean
Dear Families,
What a great first week of school. I am now excited to welcome our kindergarteners on Monday. This is always our most busy/congested day of school, so please make sure you give yourself more time if you are dropping off as you might need to walk a few blocks to find a parking space. Please be considerate of our neighbors and follow our drop-off procedures.
- Do not block driveways/mailboxes
- Do not park in the bus/drop-off zone and walk your kid to the playground. (All the red on the map below)
- Drive-thru drop-off only on 95th street next to Collaboration Station (inside the blue circle in the map). Please do not get out of the car. Make sure your child is ready to go and leaves promptly on the passenger side of the car. (The blue circled area in the picture is the drop-off zone)
Kindergartenpalooza: Kindergarten parents, please join us for ”Kindergartenpalooza” in the cafeteria after drop-off on Monday for coffee/pastries and to hear from me and the PTA!
Eagle Way Parade: Come cheer for your kids for this OV tradition on Friday, 8:05 am. Line up outside the flagpole area.
Wednesday early release: For the rest of the year, Wednesdays will be an early release. Students get out at 1:10.
Back to School Night: On Thursday, September 28 will be our annual “Back to School Night”. Last year we replaced our more formal curriculum nights for a more relational experience. This allows families to see all their kids’ teachers more easily as well as for students to share what they are learning in school! (Teachers will still provide packets that will explain the curriculum).
Visitors: Please ring the bell on the south entrance near the flagpole. After being let in the building, sign in at the office, and collect a visitor’s badge.
Volunteering: All those who would like to volunteer in classrooms or PTA/school events should complete every step of the application or confirm their application is current. (Note: Please allow at least one week for processing. I am unable to make exceptions.) Apply to Volunteer in the classrooms or PTA/school events
Drop off Plan: We are going to follow a similar procedure to last year.
- Students will line up on their class dots on the playground.
- Students will not have any recess before school.
- Drop off students no earlier than 7:40.
Pick-up Plan
- School gets out at 2:25 p.m., except for Wednesdays, which are 1:10 p.m. early release.
- Like last year, pick up your student on the west side of the playground, behind the basketball hoops.
- We will stagger classes coming outside (Kindergarten first, then grades 1-5) to avoid bottle necks in the staircases/hallways.
Free Breakfast/Lunch for entire school: Because we are a Title 1 school, all students are eligible to receive free meals! No paperwork is needed. Note: If a student wants a single milk, it will cost 50 cents.
Dates to Remember:
- Back to School Night: Thursday, September 28th from 6:00-7:00
- Teacher In-Service Day (No school): Friday, October 13.
In Partnership,
Mr. Bean, (he, him)
Important Dates

A message from your OVPTA Presidents, Chad and Andrea
Welcome back to school, Eagles! Thanks for helping us eat up all the ice cream on Tuesday! We can’t wait to see you at “Kindergartenpalooza” (all OV families are welcome to come, not just Kindergarten) after drop off this Monday in the cafeteria. There will be more coffee and donuts! Please check out our PTA FAQs and Welcome Letter in your First Day Packet of paperwork (the PTA is bright green) and visit the Olympic View PTA website to keep up-to-date on all the activities we have planned for this year. Some are listed below too, because we’re jumping right in! Please feel free to contact Andrea or Chad at president@ovpta.org if you have any questions! See you around!
Playground Paint Refresh Party, September 13th after Early Release!!
Our blacktop activity lines are so sad! How do the kids even know if the four-square ball is in or out? Is that map of the United States, I can’t tell. Please join us for a painting party where we’ll refresh lines and add some color. All supplies are provided.
Sign up here if you can join us for the playground paint and refresh party (kids with adults, too), 1:30-4:30pm, Wednesday, September 13th.
SPS needs you to get your Volunteer paperwork started -which you’ll need for any school volunteering this year- so this is a great time to submit it!
OL Reign Tickets
Come out with your fellow eagles and cheer on professional Women’s Soccer team, the OL Reign as they play their last home game of the season on October 6th at 5pm at Lumen field. The PTA has arranged for discounted group tickets. Tickets are $22 each and should be purchased with anyone you would like to sit with. This will be a big send off for star player Megan Rapinoe so tickets are going fast, so buy yours soon! Purchase tickets for OL Reign
OVPTA Seeks Sponsors
Do you own a business (or know of one) that would like to have their logo on our website, our newsletter, displayed on banners at the school during community events and, everybody’s favorite– prime advertising on the back of the Move-a-thon t-shirt that all OV kids wear around town! Sponsorship is a key component to meeting our fundraising goals and sponsorship levels start as low as $250. Reach out to president@ovpta.org if you want more information. Thanks!
2023-24 School Supplies
Did you notice that you didn’t have to shop for or bring to school any basic school supplies? The OVPTA spent the summer purchasing items from the teachers’ lists in bulk, ensuring that all students start the year off with the same quality supplies. The estimated cost of the purchased supplies averages out to about $35 per student. Please donate what you can at this time to support the PTA with this venture. Pay for supplies
Show your Eagle Spirit!!
We believe that OV gear builds community pride and every student should be able to show their spirit, so we have priced these shirts as low as possible. This is not intended to be a PTA fundraiser, but if we receive any money from these campaigns, we will purchase shirts to distribute to students who may not be able to afford them.
Eagle Trivia Night
Do you know everything there is to know about dinosaurs? Fleetwood Mac? The British Monarchy? Or just want bragging rights about remembering that obscure fact tucked away for such occasions? Join us for a PTA Fundraiser on September 29th from 6-9:30 at Ravenna Brewing. Trivia starts promptly at 6:30. Teams are up to six people. Feel free to come on your own or with a partner, or join a team when you get there. Tickets are $25 a person, or $150 for a team. This is an adult only event.

The After School Enrichment Program is back!
We have a great variety of classes this fall including chess, drama, basketball, parkour, coding, art, music, and more! Registration will begin at the end of September, with classes beginning mid October. Classes run after school on Thursdays for 8 weeks.
For more information or to get involved with the program, email Sarah Hartley at asp@ovpta.org
Join the PTA! Be a Voice in Your Child’s School!
Join the PTA because increasing our membership, even by one, makes it easier to provide important educational resources, speak up on important issues and create a stronger school community.
The only thing required of you to be a member of the PTA is to pay the annual membership dues of $15 (scholarships always available). Beyond that, however you choose to PTA is up to you. Opportunities include attending quarterly PTA meetings, providing input and voting on PTA initiatives, volunteering at PTA events and fundraisers, participating in advocacy efforts, and holding PTA leadership roles.
To join or renew your PTA membership for this year. For questions or scholarship requests, please email membership@ovpta.org.
Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed
The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests it. The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week. We need volunteers to help with packing and occasionally picking up food from the food bank. If you are interested in helping in any way, please contact Kristel Gonzales k.linnes@gmail.com. Last year we packed Thursday afternoons, but can adjust the day/time depending on volunteer availability.
