Letter from Principal Bean
Dear Families,
Auction: The auction on Saturday was such a blast. People went all out on their costumes! I want to give a gigantic shout out to Jeremey Behrens, Chelsea Whittle, Andrea Chaddock, and Sabrina O’Brien for making this event happen! And thank you to everyone who donated items so that we could raise money for the school!
Mid-winter break: Just a reminder that there is no school the following week (February 19-23)
Black Lives Matter in Schools Week: It was so powerful being in classrooms each day seeing the rich and engaging discussions classes were having around race and social justice.
Black History Month Assembly on Monday: Instead of focusing on an attribute of a Changemaker in February, our focus will be on Black History month. During this month we want to get beyond the idea of a “single narrative” and have students understand the brilliance and joy that is within all of us. The assembly will feature our fourth-grade classes!
Spirit Day: Wednesday it will be “All Colors Day”. Students are encouraged to wear as many colors as they can.
Global Reading Challenge: Last week we had our annual Global Reading Trivia Challenge. Congratulations goes out to “The Reading Wizs” (sic) who won the contest. They only missed one question in the entire three rounds! They are now moving onto the city semifinals at the downtown library later this spring.

A Big Thank You to ALL the Biking Volunteers
As always the biking unit was a big success for many students. The volunteers helped support all the learning necessary for all students to thrive and become better and more confident riders. I appreciate all the parents who made time to show up for all the students. Thank you.

OVPTA Surplus Grants for 2023-2024!
We’ve already received a few mini grant applications! Now, we’re asking for your input! At Surplus Grants Advice Survey, you can read the proposals and let us know what you think. The PTA Board will consider your input and will vote on these proposals at our February 12 Board Meeting. You can continue submitting your own proposals and we’ll look them over every month!

FREE UW Athletic Event Tickets
Use the form below to sign up for tickets.
- Gymnastics UW vs. Arizona – Sunday 3/3 at 1 p.m.

OV Science Night – March 14
We are looking for community members that can share their love of STEM. Hobbyists, scientists, medical workers, engineers, etc…
Coming on Pi Day!! – March 14
The Science Night Committee can help you create an engaging age appropriate exhibit. Think robots, tooth decay, 3-D printers, lizards, plants, compost, cow eye discretion, fossils, drones, bees, rockets, chickens, engineering, terrariums, astronomy, and more.

Art Committee Needs your Opinion
Have you heard about Olympic View Elementary’s exciting proposal to create land acknowledgment art work in the cafeteria? The proposed artwork will honor the Duwamish People (dxʷdəwʔabš), Muckleshoot Nation (bəqəlšuł) , Snoqualmie Nation (sdukʷalbixʷ), and Suquamish Nation (xʷsəq̓ʷəb) whose ancestral lands our school occupies.

General Information
Late Arrivals to School
If your student is late (the bell rings at 7:55 a.m.), please drop them off at the NE 95th Street entrance near the flagpole or blacktop. We now have a call box at the 95th Street entrance. After the bell rings at 7:55 a.m., all students must be signed in with office staff. The 8th Ave call box entrance will be used for staff only.
Absences
If your student will not be at school, please email the attendance email olympicview.attendance@seattleschools.org or call 202-252-5504 to let office staff know.
Early Pick Up
Parents/Guardians should come to the 95th Street security call box entrance. We are unable to call students down to the office until you arrive for pick up.
Pick Up Changes
If your student will have an alternate plan for pick up, please contact the office via email olympicview@seattleschools.org, phone 206-252-5500, Talking Points message, or a signed note with your student.
Our breakfast and lunch menus are now up on the SPS website!
Individual milk purchase (with home lunch) costs $.75
