The Eagle – Mid-Winter Break Edition
The Eagle – Mid-Winter Break Edition
Letter from Principal Bean
Dear Families,
Mid-winter break: Just a reminder that there is no school this week. I hope everyone enjoys spending time with their family.
Black History Month: During our assembly last Monday, our fourth graders did an amazing job sharing their reports about black Changemakers. This was so awesome because they highlighted Black excellence and helped students see beyond the “single narrative.” What was great was students researched changemakers that they really connected with, such as Angela James, the first Black woman to play for the Canadian women’s national ice hockey team, or Audre Fay Hendricks, the youngest child to be arrested for civil disobedience during the Civil Rights era.
Pick-up Parking Reminder: Please don’t park at the corner of 95th and 8th (the roundabout). Families are parking in the red lines. This is making it dangerous for our safety patrol because they have to literally go into the intersection to check for cars.
General PTA Meeting: On Wednesday, March 6, I will be sharing our school budget/staffing information for next year. I will get the projections/budget after mid-winter break. It will be at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.
In Partnership!

This Week’s News
A Big Thank You!
The Auction Committee would like to thank everyone for attending, donating and supporting this fundraiser! We had a goal of $30,000 and raised over $33,000, with donations still coming in! An extra special thank you to: the Lake City Eagles Hall, Lake City Pagliacci Pizza and Wallingford Dick’s for saving the day and getting us last minute food, Little Rae’s Cookies (donated custom auction cookies), all of our Dessert Dash donations, all of our donors, Stephanie Kloster (basket extraordinaire), Jessica Hoerschelmann (photo booth design), Jessica Gray (Dessert Dash), PTA Board Members, and all the people that helped set up and tear down the event. We had so much fun making the auction happen this year and could not have had a successful event without the help of our community. If you had a great time and want to join our small but mighty crew for next year, email us at fundraising@ovpta.org.
Student Art Gallery!
Call for students to make art at home with theme: “What does courage look like to you?”
Original drawing, painting, collage, sewing, building, sculpture, etc.
Bring to Miz Liz with your title, your name, and room number.
All art will be on display in Room 212 and then returned to students.
Students can ask Miz Liz for art supplies to create their art.
Wonderful Wednesday will be on Wed., 2/28 during lunch recesses. Students will make small Djembe-style drums! We need volunteers to help for part (or all) of the time between 11-12:30. If you have questions, contact Nancy Dautovich at ndautovich@gmail.com . Hope to see you there!
OVPTA Surplus Grants for 2023-2024!
The PTA Board decided that we can fund some surplus grants this year!
Do you have an idea that supports the OVPTA mission and goals, but you need funds to make it happen? The PTA has designated up to $20,000 to be spent on projects executed by our OV community members. That means YOU, our OV staff and our OV families, can submit a proposal for a project you’ll spearhead! In past years, these mini-grants have funded classroom books, equipment upgrades, outdoor projects, and end of year activities. We’ll be trying to prioritize projects that benefit the most OV students and have longevity, but don’t be afraid to submit a proposal for something outside-the-box! Does it make OV even more amazing than it already is? Let’s hear it! We’ll collect proposals, ask for PTA membership input, and the PTA Board will approve some (but not all) proposals each month until the end of the year, or we reach our spending limit. Find more details and fill out your proposal.
Don’t be intimidated by the proposal, it is just our process to get the information, it does not have to be a professional-looking grant! The PTA Board approved 2 surplus grants at our February Board Meeting.
Please email president@ovpta.org with questions or if you’d like to submit your proposal via paper form.
Winter PTA General Meeting: Wednesday, March 6
Please join us from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. The OVPTA Board and Principal Bean will be there to update us on all things Olympic View and answer your questions. There will be entertainment for the kids. All families are welcome, but you must be a PTA member to vote on PTA matters. You can still join for this year, and scholarships are always available. Have something you’d like to discuss at the meeting? Let us know or email president@ovpta.org.

Art Committee Wants Your Opinion!
Have you heard about Olympic View Elementary’s exciting proposal to create land acknowledgment art work in the cafeteria? The proposed artwork will honor the Duwamish People (dxʷdəwʔabš), Muckleshoot Nation (bəqəlšuł) , Snoqualmie Nation (sdukʷalbixʷ), and Suquamish Nation (xʷsəq̓ʷəb) whose ancestral lands our school occupies.
We want your feedback!
