The Eagle – Week of April 29
Letter from Principal Bean
Dear Families
Plant Sale: Even though we did not have the best weather, we still had a very successful Plant Sale. Thank you to all the volunteers who worked through the wind and rain setting up and running the sale. I want to single out Andrea Chaddock, Jen Wroblewski, Rebecca Letwin, Chelsea Shipp, Angela Roh, and Tiffany McNees!
April Changemaker Virtue Assembly: On Monday morning we had our Attributes of a Changemaker assembly. The assembly featured Mrs. Bruecher’s unicyclists, and a group of students wrote speeches connecting responsibility with their success in learning to unicycle and being a part of a team. Below is a picture of fifth grader Arsiema Abebe delivering her speech!
Update on the Land Acknowledgement Art Installation Project: Out Native American/Native Alaskan affinity group met on Friday to select the artist and selected Roger Fernandes of the Lower Elwha S’Klallam Tribe (Coastal Salish)!
SBA Testing starting this week: SBA Testing begins for third and fourth grade. If you are planning any appointments, please check in with your child’s teacher to make sure it is not during a testing session. In addition, please make sure your student gets to bed on time and has a good breakfast.
- 3rd and 4th grade: April 29- May 10
- 5th Grade: May 13- May 31
In Partnership!

Secondary needs are:

Thank you so much,

OVPTA seeks the future of PTA Leadership!! Wednesday, May 1
We’re sad to see a lot of our current volunteers graduating soon – are you ready to step in and give back to OV by joining the PTA Board? We want to ensure that all your favorite OV activities continue on!
Volunteering on the PTA Board is a great way to get to know your OV community and be a part of making OV the amazing place we love so much!! Our Board meets monthly and is supportive and friendly!! We can usually arrange childcare so you can attend a meeting, and we usually offer a virtual meeting option, if you just can’t make it in person. We want to make it easy to be a part of the Board – so let us know what you need!
Please join us for a casual get-together on Wednesday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. Location TBD. Anyone who is considering a PTA Board position next year can come and hang out and ask questions of the current Board members. We hope to see you there!
We’re looking to fill the following Board positions: Co-President, Co-Treasurer, Co-Fundraising Director, Co-Activities Director, and Co-Enrichment Director. See what PTA Board positions you can help with!
If you have any questions, please reach out to Andrea and Chad at president@ovpta.org and we’re happy to chat!
Spring Garden Activities – May 1 & 8
We will teach you how to deadhead, weed, and plant some new groundcovers and bulbs in the school garden. Supplies are provided – all ages and experience levels are welcome!
Spring Garden Activity Dates:
Wednesday, May 1 1-3 p.m.
Wednesday, May 8 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Email generousgardening@gmail.com with any questions.
Staff Appreciation Week – May 6-10
We need your help to say thanks to our amazing OV staff and show how much we appreciate all they do! Let’s treat them right this week (and every week!). Here’s what you can do:
- Tell the Staff you Appreciate Them! We know how much they do – let them know we see it!! Have your child make and give a note of thanks or draw a picture for their teacher. Don’t forget all the admin staff, classroom help and other staff that make Olympic View so awesome! Ask your child who makes their day great! And of course, now’s your chance to send a note to your child’s teacher, or other staff who make your life easier, too.
- Stock the Snack Shelf til Summer! Everyone loves snacks! Let’s stock the Staff Snack Shelf in the Lounge. This Amazon Wishlist has some of the staff favorites on it!
- Reset the Staff Lounge on Friday May 3rd! We will be spring cleaning the staff lounge on Friday May 3rd after school and we could use YOUR help to freshen up the place. Won’t take long and will be much appreciated by the staff!
- Coffee and Lunch All This Week – Find your student’s grade and sign up! Like always, the OV Community hosts lunch every day of Staff Appreciation week. Each grade is assigned a day. Don’t want to cook? Sign up to bring drinks, bring in a store-bought food, or sign up to help set up. Check out all the links below or go to Olympic View PTA. Thanks!! Reach out to president@ovpta.org if you have questions.

Spring Choir – Final Call!
Choir is continuing into the spring at Olympic View Elementary! This opportunity is for third, fourth, and fifth grade students who like to sing, perform, and have fun. We will be coming together as a community to build our musical, teamwork, and growth mindset skills through singing songs and playing musical games and activities.
Spring Session will run every Tuesday from April 16 until June 11. Rehearsals will go from 2:45-4:00 p.m. Rehearsals will take place at Olympic View Elementary in Portable 2 (Ms. Helbach’s classroom). The fee for the course will be $100/student with scholarships available.
Please feel free to email okhelbach@seattleschools.org with any questions.
OVPTA General Membership Meeting – Thursday, May 30
The OVPTA will be holding a General Membership Meeting May 30 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the OV cafeteria. We’ll have dinner, dessert, and entertainment for any attending kids.
We’ll be discussing the PTA budget and the PTA Board for next year. In addition to PTA business, OV’s Principal Andrew Bean will give us an OV update and answer questions.
All OV community members are welcome to attend and participate, but only members can vote on PTA matters. Scholarships for membership are always available (membership@ovpta.org).
Please email president@ovpta.org if you have any questions.
Field Day – Friday, May 31
Field Day is coming, and we are so excited! Field Day will be on Friday, May 31, starting with lunch and moving into the afternoon activities with 15 stations. To make this day successful, we need volunteers who can help make this a day to remember for all our students. All students will get a free lunch if they choose to have the lunch offered.
Stay tuned for volunteer opportunities! In the meantime, please make sure you are approved to volunteer. Apply or Renew Volunteer Application
Please contact Kristel Gonzales k.linnes@gmail.com, Chad Cabigting chad.cabigting@gmail.com, or Mrs. Bruecher at bhbruecher@seattleschools.org with any questions.
