The Eagle – Week of May 6

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families,

May Attribute of a Changemaker: This month we will be focusing on the theme of “kindness”. To learn more, go to “Ms. Roosma’s Corner” section of the Eagle and listen to her latest Monday Morning Message.

Ms. Roosma featured in “School Beat”! In this month’s edition of “School Beat”, Ms. Roosma is highlighted for her amazing school spirit. Follow this link and scroll towards the bottom. Ms. Roosma featured in “School Beat”

Teacher Appreciation Week: This week is a staff favorite and we are so grateful for our community. By week’s end, we feel so spoiled and appreciated by our wonderful families. You are all incredible!

Update on the Land Acknowledgement Art Installation Project: Our Native American/Native Alaskan affinity group was able to meet with the artist chosen to create the Land Acknowledgement Mural. Roger Fernandes is an artist/storyteller from the Lower Elwha S’Klallam Tribe (Coastal Salish)! One of the reasons why he was chosen was because of his enthusiasm for co-creating the design and including students in the project.

First Grade Artist in Residency: This week, first grade is beginning its artist in residency experience through the Pacific Northwest Ballet. Former OV parent and PNB Dance Teaching Artist, Shannon Barnes, helps students create dances that communicate and connect with a story they are reading.

SBA Testing continuing this week: SBA Testing continues for third and fourth grade. If you are planning any appointments, please check in with your child’s teacher to make sure it is not during a testing session. In addition, please make sure your student gets to bed on time and has a good breakfast.

  •  3rd and 4th grade: April 29-May 10
  • 5th Grade: May 13-May 31

In Partnership!

Mr. Bean (He/him)

This Week’s News

Staff Appreciation Week – May 6-10

We need your help to say thanks to our amazing OV staff and show how much we appreciate all they do! Let’s treat them right this week (and every week!).  Here’s what you can do:

  1. Tell the Staff you Appreciate Them! We know how much they do – let them know we see it!! Have your child make and give a note of thanks or draw a picture for their teacher. Don’t forget all the admin staff, classroom help and other staff that make Olympic View so awesome! Ask your child who makes their day great! And of course, now’s your chance to send a note to your child’s teacher, or other staff who make your life easier, too.
  2. Stock the Snack Shelf til Summer!  Everyone loves snacks! Let’s stock the Staff Snack Shelf in the Lounge. This Amazon Wishlist has some of the staff favorites on it!
  3. Coffee and Lunch All This Week – Find your student’s grade and sign up! Like always, the OV Community hosts lunch every day of Staff Appreciation week. Each grade is assigned a day.  Don’t want to cook? Sign up to bring drinks, bring in a store-bought food, or sign up to help set up. Check out all the links below or go to the PTSA website. Thanks!! Reach out to president@ovpta.org if you have questions.

Volunteer Opportunities

Library Volunteers Wanted

Calling all volunteers!  We are looking for a few parents who would be willing to volunteer in the library. Volunteers will help pick up books from classrooms, check books in, and return books to their shelves.  Occasional special project may also arise throughout the year and your help would be greatly appreciated.

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)

The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests one. The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week. We need volunteers to help with packing on Friday mornings from about 8:00-9:00 am. If you are able to help during this timeframe, we would be grateful for your help!

We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time. Questions? Contact k.linnes@gmail.com

We also need plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store).  If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
