Families of 3rd-5th graders, if your child has brought their district laptop home, please help them remember to return their laptops no later than next Tuesday (6/18). This includes laptop chargers and cases, if your child has one of the those.

All students missing a device will be charged a fine from the district.

Fresh Bucks Program

We have the opportunity to enroll some families in the Fresh Bucks Program, if you enroll, you can buy $40/month of Fresh Fruits and Vegetables.

If you think this would help your family, please consider enrolling. It takes around 30 minutes per application. Please reach out to Joyce Rho if you plan to enroll on Monday, June 17, so we can ensure all families are served. If you are unable to come, you can send someone on your behalf as long as they have all needed documentation for you.

Please bring a document to verify your address (ex. medical bill, photo ID, utility bill). That’s all you will need – no proof of income is needed. You will be able to leave with a card and be able to buy fruits and vegetables immediately after the sign up!

If you have any questions, please reach out to counselor Joyce Rho at jecho@seattleschools.org or 206-252-5509. Thank you!

Students with Medications in the Office

Meds must be picked up and signed out by a parent or adult guardian on the last day of school.  If you would like meds sent home in students’ backpacks, you must message Nurse Angie and give this permission.  All controlled meds must be picked up by an adult.

Students will need properly filled out Medication Authorization forms AND unexpired inhalers and epi pends turned into the office before the first day of school for the 2024-2025 school year.

Questions?  Ask Nurse Angie amsterwald@seattleschools.org

Medication Authorizations for the 2024/25 School Year

This information is for parents of students who require medication at school.

Students with severe or life threatening conditions MUST have medication at school.  If your child has asthma or serious allergies, it is a legal requirement the school be notified and have the appropriate emergency medications in the building.  Students cannot self-carry their medications in elementary school.  Medications must be kept in the office.

Please compete the following steps before the beginning of the next school year:

  1. Complete and sign the attached Medication Authorization form.  Note there is one specifically for Asthma, one for Life Threatening Allergies/Anaphylaxis, and a general form for all other medications.  Please note each medication requires it’s own form.  AsthmaLife Threatening AllergiesGeneral Medication Authorization
  2. Your doctor must fill out and sign the form.  Until I receive the complete form (signed and filled out by you and your doctor) the authorization is not complete.  I can help by faxing this form to your doctor.
  3. Before the first day of school 2024-25, please bring the appropriate medication to the nurse’s office.
  4. If your student will be attending a different school, please call the school office to make sure the nurse has received all the appropriate information for your student.

Please reach out to Nurse Angie if you have questions. amsterwald@seattleschools.org

Summer Reading Recommendations from the Library

Summer is a perfect time for reading!  This week your child should have brought home a list of reading recommendations put together by Mrs. Leland and a team of NE school librarians.  Book titles are grouped by grade levels, but please encourage your child to read what they want!  Better yet, find a book that sounds good and read it together. This list of books can also be found online.

If you have a 5th grader about to head off to middle school, your readers also brought home two sheets with reading recommendations.  One has a comprehensive list of titles created by Ms. Christiansen and Ms. Sterling at JAMS and Eckstein Middle Schools.

Wishing you a summer full of reading!

First Day of School Supplies will be handled by the OV PTA again this year!

Thanks for all your constructive feedback on our survey – this is a REALLY big job for us – so we’re happy to hear how important it is to OV. We’re still hoping to find some more help this summer. Can you help shop for items, store supplies over the summer, or help with inventory and distribution? Let us know at president@ovpta.org. Please also be on the lookout at the end of summer for a link to donate to help the PTA offset the cost of buying the supplies. Enjoy your summer – and don’t worry about school supply shopping!!!

Which activities should the PTA continue next year?

We know that everyone is giving as much volunteer time as they can and we appreciate all you do for the PTA, but we also know that we’ve struggled to find volunteers for many activities this year. Can you help us decide if the PTA is doing too much? Let us know what activities and programs are most important to you. Let us know what activities the PTA should continue.

OVPTA Board still has openings – want to join the fun?

Next year’s PTA Board is a friendly and supportive group! We’ve got oldies and newbies and we’re going to have a great time this year! Volunteering on the PTA Board is a great way to be in the know about what’s happening at OV! Our Board meets monthly, we can usually arrange childcare so you can attend a meeting, and we offer a virtual meeting option. We’re looking to find one more Co-Fundraising Director and one more Co-Activities Director. See descriptions and our current help wanted info! If you have any questions, please reach out to Andrea and Chad at president@ovpta.org and we’re happy to chat!

Volunteer Opportunities

Library Volunteers Wanted

Calling all volunteers!  We are looking for a few parents who would be willing to volunteer in the library. Volunteers will help pick up books from classrooms, check books in, and return books to their shelves.  Occasional special project may also arise throughout the year and your help would be greatly appreciated.

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)

The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests one. The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week. We need volunteers to help with packing on Friday mornings from about 8:00-9:00 am. If you are able to help during this timeframe, we would be grateful for your help!

We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time. Questions? Contact k.linnes@gmail.com

We also need plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store).  If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
