Meet our counselor, Ms. Joyce

Hi! Welcome to the school counseling page. My name is Joyce, the school counselor at Olympic View. I am grateful to be a part of such an awesome community here and be able to support students and families. Please check out the resources below. There is a lot to offer so please feel free to reach out to me with any wonders or worries. I look forward to connecting with you!

Individual and Group Counseling

Providing individual support to students with specific needs and facilitating group activities to build social skills and address common challenges. Friendship group, anxiety group, grief group, lunch bunch, anger management group, etc.).

Classroom Lessons

Delivering social-emotional lessons and other guidance activities in classrooms to promote positive behaviors and school culture, (anti-bulling lessons, small problem, big problem lesson using Kelso’s Choice). 

5th Grade Recess Ambassadors

A program for 5th grade students interested in developing leadership skills by helping OV students during recess. RA’s are students who take care of themselves, others, and their school. They display appropriate classroom and hallway behaviors and are willing to learn how to appropriately resolve conflicts with their peers. They will be peer mediators if there see conflicts during recess and be a friend to those who look like they need a buddy to talk to. It’s an amazing opportunity to become a leader and to grow!

504 Building Coordinator – Academic Support

Assisting students with academic challenges, connecting them with resources, and working with teachers to address learning needs, barriers, and creating plans to help students succeed in the classroom setting.

Community and Family Connections

Referral to community resources, collaboration with families, and providing support during family transitions. Please reach out if you are experiencing financial struggles, homelessness, housing transitions, and student concerns at any time.

  • Eagle Food Packs: Eagle Pack Sign-Up Food packs sent home with your child/ren every weekend. Please note that you will have to fill out a form for each child.
  • Winter Coat Drive: We collect and provide new coats for students who need them
  • Thanksgiving and Holiday Baskets: Food baskets and gifts cards for the holidays

  • Virtual Calming Room
  • Positive Parenting, Thriving Kids Project from the Child Mind Institute’s partnership with the state of California. It is an accessible and succinct series of free resources with practical, evidence-based information and skills to address with your most common parenting challenges. From self-esteem and stress, to friendships, mental health, and technology, it will be time well spent! It’s available in English and Spanish too.

(Accepts Medicaid and Apple) We have a therapist who comes in weekly for in-school hour counseling sessions. If you are interested, please let Joyce know and she can refer your child/ren.
