The Eagle – Week of September 15

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families

Eagle Way Parade: Thank you to all the families who cheered on students in our annual Eagle Way Parade. It is such a wonderful tradition and sets a positive tone for the school year. The “Eagle Way” is our school motto. It says…

  • We take care of ourselves
  • We take care of each other
  • We take care of our school

Olympic View Title 1 School: Part of being a Title 1 school requires that we create a “Student, Staff, and Parent Compact”. Olympic View Student Staff Parent Compact  Please review this with your child. After reviewing it, please click on this form to verify. OV Compact Verification

Back to School Night: On Thursday, September 25, we will host our annual “Back to School Night”. It is a great way to meet your child’s teacher(s) and see all the amazing work they are doing. The purpose of the night is to develop positive relationships between home and school as opposed to a traditional “curriculum night.” Teachers will, however, provide curriculum.

Start of School Packets: Please return the start of school packets before the end of the month.

Change to Volunteering Process: SPS is changing its volunteer sign-up procedures this year in order to ensure that all volunteers have cleared background checks. We need to train staff in this new process. Before being able to fill in the electronic volunteer documentation, you will first need to be invited to volunteer by an OV staff member. This should happen next week. If you want to know more, you can visit the Volunteer Application Page.

Fire Drill: We will be having a Fire Drill on Tuesday at 9:00 AM.

In partnership,

Mr. Bean (he/him)
Principal, Olympic View

Art Docents Needed!

What is an Art Docent? A Docent is a parent or community member who volunteers to teach a pre-written, materials-prepared lesson by our Artist in Residence, Jenny Hellmann. As a Docent, you will receive a lesson on the artist, and an opportunity to try the project inspired by the artist for yourself, before presenting it to the children. These projects typically take an hour for the lesson and project combined. The total time commitment, including training, is about an hour, to an hour and a half, a month.

The Art Docent Program is beloved by the children and is a way to help supplement and support arts education for all our families at Olympic View. Please contact Laura Rogneby at ovdocents@gmail.com for more information on this program.

Membership strengthens the voice of our community, helps support the WA State and National PTAs, and allows you to vote on OV PTA matters, including how to spend the money we fundraise. Scholarships are available, if you need one.

With the first full week of school under our belts, students are starting to share germs and become sick.

For all illnesses, including COVID, please keep students home if:

  • They have uncontrollable secretions from their eyes or nose
  • They cannot control their cough
  • Their symptoms are improving
  • They are fever, diarrhea, vomit free for at least 24 hours, without the use of medication

COVID testing is no longer required.

We will be hosting a vaccine clinic at Olympic View on October 2, where all childhood vaccines, flu and COVID vaccines will be available at no cost to you.

If you would like to take action sooner, local pharmacies and doctors’ offices have the seasonal flu shot and pediatric COVID vaccines will become available over the next couple weeks.  Adult COVID vaccines are currently available.

Please help keep our community healthy by keeping sick students home, practicing good hand washing, properly covering coughs and sneezes and maintaining vaccinations for preventable illness.

Thank you,

Nurse Angie
