The Eagle – Week of June 1
The Eagle
Letter from Principal Bean
Dear Families,
Volunteer Appreciation Awards: I want to give a heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who make OV such a special place. At our Volunteer Appreciation assembly last Thursday, many awards were given out!
- The Ada Snyder Award (honoring a senior citizen in our community) was given to our crossing guard Cheryl McArthur
- The L.O.V.E Award (Lifetime Olympic View Elementary) was given to Andrea Chaddock and Rob Wilson
- The Golden Acorn Award was given to Chelsea Shipp and Kristel Gonzales
- The Sparkling Eagle: Rachel Roosma Spirited Staff Award was given to Lucy Cooley and Sabrina O’Brien
June Attribute of a Changemaker: To finish the year, we are going to focus on the idea of “reflection”. Our assembly on Monday will feature our fourth graders!
Spirit Day: Wednesday will be “Animal” Day.
Field Day: Just a reminder that Field Day is on Friday. The long-term forecast looks like it will be warm, so make sure to bring a water bottle and good shoes!
PTA General Meeting: The last PTA meeting of the year will be this Tuesday from 6:30-8:00. There will be an instrumental music concert beforehand, starting at 6:00.
Drop-off Expectations: A few years ago, we had students line up before the bell in the morning and not have them play. This led to a dramatic increase in student readiness to start the day calmly. Please remind your child to calmly line up in the morning. Also, if they bring a ball from home, they are expected to just hold the ball.
In partnership,
Mr. Bean (he/him)
Principal, Olympic View

This Week’s News
Field Day is FRIDAY, JUNE 5
Field Day is this week on FRIDAY, June 5! This year’s event will take place on Friday, June 5th, beginning with lunch and continuing into an afternoon of activities featuring 14 stations. All students will get a free lunch if they choose to have the lunch offered.
Field Day is a wonderful opportunity for our Olympic View community to come together and celebrate. To make this a day to remember for all our students, we’d love your help! We need donations of sidewalk chalk, volunteers to assist with lunch prep, service, and cleanup, and 30–40 helpers to run the Field Day stations. Field Day Volunteer Sign-Up.
Please contact Kristel Gonzales (k.linnes@gmail.com) or Mrs. Bruecher (bhbruecher@seattleschools.org) with any questions.
Thank you—and get ready for a super fun time!

We hope to see you there!
Order your 2025-2026 Olympic View Yearbook by June 5

It’s time to order your student’s 2025-2026 Olympic View Yearbook! The yearbook is a 60 page, full color snap shot of this awesome school year. Order yours for $25 via the OVPTA Yearbook Order page or via check (made out to “OVPTA”) or cash using the order form sent home with each student. Be sure to include your child’s name and teacher/room number on this form. We will distribute the books during the last week of school.
All 5th graders will receive a book free of charge. If you are able, please consider donating additional funds to help the PTA pay for these scholarship yearbooks.
Email Greg Flowers at yearbook@ovpta.org with questions. Quantities are limited and orders are due June 5.
After School Enrichment Program Feedback
From our After School Enrichment provider, Hall of Fame Team Camp (HOFTC):
We are busy planning for next school year’s after-school enrichment program and would love your feedback on how to better serve your community. This brief survey should only take a few minutes to complete and all responses are confidential and unidentifiable, unless you provide your contact information in the last question.
Thanks for taking the time to fill this out!
NOTE: If you have already completed the survey sent directly by HOFTC, you do not need to complete it again.
TENTATIVE HOFTC dates for next school year:
- Week of September 21 Fall Quarter registration begins
- Week of October 12 Fall Quarter begins
Volunteer Opportunities
Wonderful Wednesday Helpers
Once a month the Art Committee hosts a lunch recess art activity that is absolutely beloved by the students. From 11:05 a.m.-11:55 p.m. we offer a small project supporting seasonal themes and exploring a variety of materials. Contact Cara Mattera at enrichment@ovpta.org for more Art Committee information.
Library Help
Thank you for considering volunteering in the OV Library. If this is your first time volunteering in the library, please reach out to Ms. Leland klleland@seattleschools.org to receive an SPS Volunteer Invitation. Send any questions my way.

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)
The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests it. The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week. We need volunteers to help with picking up from the Food Bank on Thursday afternoons and packing on Friday mornings from about 8-9 a.m. If you are able to help Eagle Pack during this timeframe, please sign up.
We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Approved volunteers can feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday, after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time.
We can always use plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store). If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
