The Eagle – Week of April 27
The Eagle
Letter from Principal Bean
Dear Families,
Plant Sale was an Amazing Success! The weather really cooperated. Thank you to all the volunteers who made the event happen, with a huge shoutout to Andrea Chaddock and Chelsea Shipp for organizing the event!
Cell Phones: Please remind your child that cell phones are to be put away at all times while at school.
No supervision before 7:40 a.m.: As our days get longer and the weather gets warmer, I just wanted to remind families that students should not arrive at school before 7:40 a.m.!
SBA Testing: For families of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders: SBA testing starts soon! We will be testing reading during the week of May 11 and math during the week of May 18. Please do not plan to travel. Also, avoid scheduling doctor or dental appointments. Testing starts promptly in the morning.
No Baseballs: Some students have been bringing baseballs to school to play at recess. I am asking for those to stay at home because it is a safety concern. It is okay to bring a tennis ball or a soft baseball if they want to play catch.
Hootenanny: Our annual talent show is coming on May 15. Auditions will be on Friday, May 8 and Monday, May 11. Please see the blurb from Sabrina below for more information.
In partnership,
Mr. Bean (he/him)

Volunteer Opportunities
Wonderful Wednesday Helpers
Once a month the Art Committee hosts a lunch recess art activity that is absolutely beloved by the students. From 11:05-11:55 a.m. we offer a small project supporting seasonal themes and exploring a variety of materials. Contact Cara Mattera at enrichment@ovpta.org for more Art Committee information.
Library Help
Thank you for considering volunteering in the OV Library. If this is your first time volunteering in the library, please reach out to Ms. Leland klleland@seattleschools.org to receive an SPS Volunteer Invitation. Send any questions my way.

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)
The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests it. The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week. We need volunteers to help with picking up from the Food Bank on Thursday afternoons and packing on Friday mornings from about 8-9 a.m. If you are able to help Eagle Pack during this timeframe, please sign up.
We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Approved volunteers can feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday, after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time.
We can always use plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store). If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
