The Eagle – Week of January 12

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families

Goodbye to Ms. Sabrina: It is with a sad heart that OV is saying goodbye to our office assistant Sabrina O’Brien, but we are so excited for her new career opportunity. Her last day will be this Friday. Sabrina’s contributions to the OV community are immeasurable. Besides her regular job duties, Sabrina has been instrumental in so many things, including the organizing and distribution of holiday baskets, producing the school musical, fundraising, and serving on the PTA board in so many capacities.

OV partnership with OfficeMax: For the past 2 years, we have had an amazing partnership with OfficeMax in Ballard. Last Wednesday our staff got to go to the store for a shopping spree for $4000. We have received over $20,000 in supplies during this time. If you are in need of any office materials, I encourage you to support this store.

Attribute of a Changemaker Assembly: Our theme for January is “gratitude” and this month’s assembly will feature our second grade!

Spirit Day: This Wednesday is All the Colors Day

PTA General Meeting: Whether you are a PTA member or not, everyone is welcome to come to our General PTA meeting this Wednesday at 6:30 in the cafeteria.

Afterschool Programs: Afterschool programs will resume this Thursday.

No School on January 19: Just a reminder that there will be no school next Monday for MLK Jr. Day.

Multicultural Night: Please make sure to save Wednesday, January 21 on your calendar for our annual Multicultural Night! It is one of the best events of the whole year. And you can’t beat the food!

School Tour: We will have our final school tour this Wednesday, January 14 at 8:30.

Open Enrollment for School Choice Window is Now Open: The window will go from January 5-31. Families will find out the school on February 24.

In partnership,

Mr. Bean (he/him)
Principal, Olympic View

Volunteer Opportunities

Wonderful Wednesday Helpers

Once a month the Art Committee hosts a lunch recess art activity that is absolutely beloved by the students. From 11:05am-11:55pm we offer a small project supporting seasonal themes and exploring a variety of materials. Contact Cara Mattera at enrichment@ovpta.org for more Art Committee information.

Library Help

Thank you for considering volunteering in the OV Library. If this is your first time volunteering in the library, please reach out to Ms. Leland klleland@seattleschools.org to receive an SPS Volunteer Invitation.  Send any questions my way.

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)

The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests it.  The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week.  We need volunteers to help with picking up from the Food Bank on Thursday afternoons and packing on Friday mornings from about 8:00-9:00 am. If you are able to help during this timeframe, please sign up

We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Approved volunteers can feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday, after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time.

We can always use plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store).  If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
