The Eagle – Week of March 04

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families,

March Attribute of a Changemaker Virtue: On March we will be focusing on courage.

General PTA Meeting: This Wednesday I will be sharing our school budget/staffing information for next year. It will be at 6:30 in the cafeteria.

Good Luck to the “Reading Wisz”: The winning team of the OV Global Reading Challenge are moving on to the city semi-finals at the downtown public library on Wednesday. Way to represent OV Anitra, Bella, Brook, Annika, Rediet, and Asha!

Science Night is Coming: Science Night will be on Thursday, March 14, from 5:30-7:30 in the cafeteria. It should be so much fun!

OV Musical: Don’t forget to get tickets for the OV musical. Our talented thespians will be performing “Imagine a Dragon”. Performances will be March 22-24. For more information, see the blurb further on down the Eagle!

Pick-up Parking Reminder: Please don’t park at the corner of 95th and 8th (the roundabout). Families are parking in the red lines. This is making it dangerous for our safety patrol because they have to literally go into the intersection to check for cars.

In Partnership!

Mr. Bean (He/him)

Imagine a Dragon

Imagine a Dragon – The dragon is back in town! Well… not really. That’s the story a ragtag band of innkeepers makes up, desperate to draw questing heroes to the struggling Dancing Dragon Inn. Soon the inn is full of unexpected guests, from an army of princesses out to prove their bravery, to a group of overwhelmed heroes trying to hold onto their fame. But what happens if they all discover the innkeepers’ dragon story is made up? Could there be more than one way to save the day? An epic folk-rock score brings magic to this funny, heartfelt fantasy musical.

OVPTA Surplus Grants for 2023-2024!

The PTA Board decided that we can fund some surplus grants this year!
Do you have an idea that supports the OVPTA mission and goals, but you need funds to make it happen? The PTA has designated up to $20,000 to be spent on projects executed by our OV community members. That means YOU, our OV staff and our OV families, can submit a proposal for a project you’ll spearhead! In past years, these mini-grants have funded classroom books, equipment upgrades, outdoor projects, and end of year activities. We’ll be trying to prioritize projects that benefit the most OV students and have longevity, but don’t be afraid to submit a proposal for something outside-the-box! Does it make OV even more amazing than it already is? Let’s hear it! We’ll collect proposals, ask for PTA membership input, and the PTA Board will approve some (but not all) proposals each month until the end of the year, or we reach our spending limit. Find more details and fill out your proposal.

Don’t be intimidated by the proposal, it is just our process to get the information, it does not have to be a professional-looking grant! The PTA Board approved 2 surplus grants at our February Board Meeting.

Please email president@ovpta.org with questions or if you’d like to submit your proposal via paper form.

Art Committee Wants Your Opinion!

Have you heard about Olympic View Elementary’s exciting proposal to create land acknowledgment art work in the cafeteria? The proposed artwork will honor the Duwamish People (dxʷdəwʔabš), Muckleshoot Nation (bəqəlšuł) , Snoqualmie Nation (sdukʷalbixʷ), and Suquamish Nation (xʷsəq̓ʷəb) whose ancestral lands our school occupies.

We want your feedback!

Volunteer Opportunities

Library Volunteers Wanted

Calling all volunteers!  We are looking for a few parents who would be willing to volunteer in the library. Volunteers will help pick up books from classrooms, check books in, and return books to their shelves.  Occasional special project may also arise throughout the year and your help would be greatly appreciated.

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)

The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests one. The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week. We need volunteers to help with packing on Friday mornings from about 8:00-9:00 am. If you are able to help during this timeframe, we would be grateful for your help!

We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time. Questions? Contact k.linnes@gmail.com

We also need plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store).  If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
