The Eagle – Week of May 27

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families,

Memorial Day: Just a reminder that there is no school tomorrow (Monday, May 27) because of Memorial Day.

Unicyclists: I want to give a huge shout out to Mrs. Bruecher and her team of unicyclists who performed at the Ballard Norwegian Constitution Day Parade on May 17. Check out Mrs. Bruecher’s thank you post below with an awesome photo of our talented unicyclists and their supporters.

PTA General Meeting: The PTA is hosting their final general meeting this Thursday, May 30 at 6:30 in the cafeteria. Food will be served!

Field Day is this Friday: Please make sure that your child does the following:

  • Bring a water bottle
  • Apply sunscreen at home
  • Dress for the activity (covered shoes)
  • Wear Move-a-thon shirt from this year 2024

School Closures: As you might have heard, the school board gave permission for the the district to close up to 20 schools. This would save the district a significant amount of money and all schools to be “well resourced”. I do not have any insight into what schools will be closed, but I have heard nothing about Olympic View. If you would like to participate in a community meeting, you can attend any of the following:

  • Tuesday, May 28, 6 – 7:30 p.m., Roosevelt High School, 1410 NE 66th St.
  • Saturday, June 1, 10:30 a.m. – noon, Chief Sealth International High School, 2600 SW Thistle St.
  • Tuesday, June 4, 6 – 7:30 p.m., Zoom meeting

Translation and interpretation services will be provided!

In Partnership!

We’ll be discussing the PTA budget and the PTA Board for next year. In addition to PTA business, OV’s Principal Andrew Bean will give us an OV update and answer questions.

All OV community members are welcome to attend and participate, but only members can vote on PTA matters. Scholarships for membership are always available membership@ovpta.org.
Please email president@ovpta.org if you have any questions.

Field Day is this Friday, May 31

Field Day is upon us and we are so excited! Field Day will be starting with lunch, then moving into the afternoon outdoor activities with 15 stations.

For a successful field day, we need volunteers who can help make this a day to remember for all our students. We are still looking for 6 lunch helpers, and 5 more volunteers to help run the Field Day stations. All students will get a free lunch if they choose to have the lunch offered.

Please make sure you are approved to volunteer. Apply or Renew Volunteer Application

This is such a great time for our Olympic View Community to join in on the fun! Please volunteer and help make one of our favorite days a success. See you there!

Please contact Kristel Gonzales at k.linnes@gmail.com, Chad Cabigting at chad.cabigting@gmail.com or Mrs. Bruecher at bhbruecher@seattleschools.org with any questions.

Thank you, and prepare yourself for a wonderful, fun-filled time!

Order Your 2023-2024 Olympic View Yearbook

It’s time to order your student’s 2023-2024 Olympic View Yearbook! The yearbook is a 60 page, full color snap shot of this incredible school year. Order yours online at the Olympic View PTA website or via check (made out to “OVPTA”) or cash using the order form sent home with each student. Be sure to include your child’s name and teacher/room number on this form. We will distribute the books during the last week of school.

If you are able, please consider donating a little extra so we can make sure each fifth grader receives a book, regardless of their ability to pay.

Email Greg Flowers at yearbook@ovpta.org with questions. Quantities are limited. Orders are due June 7.

Ballard Parade

We had 29 students from Olympic View participate in the 50th anniversary of the Ballard parade. Each year we join Whittier Elementary is this joyous event.  Our students were able to show their unicycle skills and hard work to the community of Seattle.  As I close out another year of this event I want to take the time to thank all the families who brought their children to participate.  The gift of this experience will be lasting over their life.

Mahalo,

Mrs. Bruecher

Here are a few quick (we promise) surveys to let us know what you think. You’re always welcome to email president@ovpta.org, if you’ve got more to say.

  1. Do you want the PTA to purchase First Day of School Supplies again this Fall? Or would you rather do your own shopping? Please respond to this short survey to let us know what you think.
  2. Which activities should the PTA continue next year? Let us know what can go and what should stay! Let us know what activities the PTA should continue.
  3. Who deserves an award for outstanding volunteer this year? Submit your volunteer nomination. The awards will be presented at the Volunteer Recognition Assembly on June 6 at 8:10 a.m.

Volunteer Opportunities

Library Volunteers Wanted

Calling all volunteers!  We are looking for a few parents who would be willing to volunteer in the library. Volunteers will help pick up books from classrooms, check books in, and return books to their shelves.  Occasional special project may also arise throughout the year and your help would be greatly appreciated.

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)

The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests one. The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week. We need volunteers to help with packing on Friday mornings from about 8:00-9:00 am. If you are able to help during this timeframe, we would be grateful for your help!

We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time. Questions? Contact k.linnes@gmail.com

We also need plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store).  If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
