The Eagle – Week of May 4

The Eagle

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families

New Cell Phone Policy: Starting Monday, SPS is implementing a new cell phone policy. For grades K-8, the expectations are that cell phones are “away for the day.” This means that they need to be turned off and safely secured. If a staff member sees a phone, the staff member will take the phone, and the phone will be returned to the student at the end of the day. If it continues to happen, then families will be contacted, and a more restrictive plan will be implemented.

Happy Staff Appreciation Week! This week is Staff Appreciation Week! Thank you to the PTA and all the volunteers who are working to make this a great week. Being a teacher is really hard in 2026! This week means so much to staff and helps build momentum to finish the year strong.

May Attribute of a Changemaker: This month we are focusing on the idea of community.  Kindergarten will be leading our assembly the following Monday, May 11.

SBA Testing: For families of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders: SBA testing starts soon! We will be testing reading during the week of May 11 and math during the week of May 18. Please do not plan to travel. Also, avoid scheduling doctor or dental appointments. Testing starts promptly in the morning.

Hootenanny: Our annual talent show is coming on May 15. Auditions will be on Friday, May 8. Please see the blurb from Sabrina below for more information.

In partnership,

Mr. Bean (he/him)
Principal, Olympic View

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)

The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests it.  The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week.  We need volunteers to help with picking up from the Food Bank on Thursday afternoons and packing on Friday mornings from about 8-9 a.m. If you are able to help Eagle Pack during this timeframe, please sign up

We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Approved volunteers can feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday, after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time.

We can always use plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store).  If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
