The Eagle – Week of October 20
The Eagle – Week of October 20
Letter from Principal Bean
Dear Families,
Fall Festival: As usual we had such an incredible fall festival last Friday. I would like to give a huge shoutout to Rob Wilson, who spearheaded the event (and it was even his birthday!!). I would also like to thank Ashley, Maggee, Renee, Tom, Billy, Laura, Sonja, Mariia, Sabrina, Ajay, Jessica, Cara, Andrea, Edie, Paul, Jasper, and Eli!!
Land Acknowledgement Art Installation: Last Monday we had an amazing Indigenous Peoples’ Day Assembly where we unveiled our new Land Acknowledgement Art Installation! This was a 2-year effort. I would like to thank the PTA for funding the project, as well as Sarah Sense-Wilson, Sarah Wichlacz, Nancy Dautovich, Andrea Chaddock, Chelsea Whittle, Anna Burkett, and our former art teachers Liz Law and Alan De la Cruz. I also want to thank Roger Fernandes, who designed the mural, and to our Native American students, who collaborated with Roger to identify the themes (Ava Lane, Harmony Fredriksson, Arya Porter, La’Savious Streets, Waylin Wilson, Emery Doxey, Sadie Williams, Avery Henscheid, and Claire Smith). And of course, to each and every student who all painted a piece of the mural.
Cake Decorating Contest: Thank you to all the kids (past and present) who participated in this year’s cake decorating contest. This is always the heart and soul of the fall festival.
Attendance is Important: Just a reminder about the importance of getting to school on time. It is so helpful for children’s regulation when they start the school day with their class. Please be in the class line each morning by 7:55.
In partnership,
Mr. Bean (he/him)

Coat Drive
As the colder months are approaching, Olympic View is running a coat drive to ensure every child stays warm this winter. Your generosity will help provide a cozy layer of warmth for children who may not have adequate winter wear. Together, we can make a big difference in the lives of our students!
We would love for the coat drive to be fulfilled by the end of October, but we will run the drive until each child that needs a coat has one.  If you would like to purchase elsewhere, feel free.  Just please select a coat of same size and similar color and click “I bought this gift.”  That will remove it from the registry, and you can drop it off or have it shipped to Olympic View.  We are specifically looking for coats that are insulated, hooded, and water resistant.
The prices are regular price, and don’t update with sales.  Please click through to stores for current pricing.

Help Our 5th Graders Experience the Magic of the Olympic Peninsula!
We are raising funds to send our 5th grade class to nature camp for their end of the year trip. Last year we were funded by Washington’s Outdoor Education Grant but state funding was cut this year for that program so we are now on our own. Every bag of popcorn you buy brings them one step closer to an unforgettable experience! Delivery available direct or to your student at OV. Arrives in time for the holidays!
Please reach out to Danielle at dadam3984@gmail.com with any questions!
A Note from Nurse Angie
We are seeing an increase in illness. Please keep your child home from school if they are not feeling well. Sending them to school sick will increase the spread of illness to others.
Winter brings an increase in cases of lice! Please check your child weekly for lice and nits. Here is a visual tool from the CDC to help with this.
Flu and COVID vaccines are being offered at a variety of SPS schools. Eckstein, Ingraham and Nathan Hale are nearby options for our school community. Register here for yourself, your children, or any family members! This is not exclusive to SPS students, anyone is welcome!
It is required your child have all their childhood vaccines to attend school. If your child is missing vaccines, they are at risk for exclusion from school, meaning they will not be able to attend. This process is starting in November. I will notify you if you are at risk. If your child needs vaccines or you need help accessing health care, please let me know.
Thank you for your help and support in keeping our community healthy.

The Thanksgiving and the Holidays are coming around the corner!
Please note that Thanksgiving and Holiday baskets are given to the first families on the list. If you have any questions, please reach out to our counselor Joyce Rho at jecho@seattleschools.org. Thank you!
Thank you for joining us at the OV Fall Festival!
This event is not possible without the help of students, staff, volunteers, alumni, and the whole rest of the community. We’d love to gather your feedback on the event and how we can improve for future years. Kids and parents are both welcome to respond, fill out a new survey for each person. Survey entries will be entered to win Olympic View prizes!!!!!
Kraken Community Iceplex – Free Skating – Saturday, Nov 1
In partnership with the Seattle Kraken, the OV PTA is proud to announce a Free ice skating opportunity at the Kraken Community Iceplex (KCI) in Northgate on Saturday, November 1 from 4:15-5:45 PM. This event is open to the entire OV community – adults & kids!
We’ll have a check-in table setup in the main lobby where parents/guardians can fill out the waiver form to get skating wristbands for their family. There will be some skate aids available for use and a skate monitor from KCI. Kids are encouraged to bring helmets/safety gear if they have them (there will also be some helmets available for temporary use at the rink).
Please note: this is not a drop-off event – kids must be accompanied by an adult.
We hope to see you there!

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)
The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests it. The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week. We need volunteers to help with picking up from the Food Bank on Thursday afternoons and packing on Friday mornings from about 8:00-9:00 am. If you are able to help during this timeframe, please sign up.
We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Approved volunteers can feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday, after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time.
We can always use plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store). If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
