The Eagle – Week of October 27

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families

School-Wide Tardy Goal: I have shared many times about the volume of tardies we have. I compared Olympic View’s tardy data with the district and was shocked to see such a huge discrepancy.

Infographic showing that Olympic View's tardy rate is 12% this year, up from 11.6% from last school year. The district tardiness percentage is 4.8% for the 2025-26 school year, versus 5.4% from last school year.

There are so many reasons why getting to school on time is so important!

  • You learn more!
  • You teach your child the importance of being punctual.
  • You help your child’s regulation and connection. When you join the class on time, you experience the class routines and have opportunities to connect with your peers. It creates a sense of belonging. This is so important for the brain to be ready to learn.

No Costumes on Halloween: Just a reminder that there are no costumes at school on Halloween.

Need Photos for Veterans Day Assembly: As we prepare for our annual Veterans Day Assembly, we would love your contributions! Do you have a family member, or even yourself, who has served in the military? Please submit a photo of your Veteran and include the following:

  • Time of active duty (ex: 1970-2000)
  • Name of Veteran
  • Rank of Veteran
  • Military Branch
  • Name of OV student
  • Relationship to OV student

Please have all submissions in by October 29 end of day. All submissions can be emailed to Ms. Sabrina – snobrien@seattleschools.org

In partnership,

Mr. Bean (he/him)

Thanksgiving and Holiday Baskets

Hi families,

Thanksgiving and the Holidays are around the corner!

Please note that Thanksgiving and Holiday baskets are given to the first families on the list. If you have any questions, please reach out to our counselor Joyce Rho at jecho@seattleschools.org. Thank you!

Update: Direct Ask Flying Forward Fund

We are a little over halfway through the month and have raised $11,085 of our $20,000 goal. Thank you to all who have donated already! We still have a ways to go so keep those blue envelopes coming in, drop off in person at the General PTA meeting on November 5, or donate at the link below. Don’t forget to share with family, friends, or neighbors who would like to support OV, and remember employer matching!

Giving Opportunity for WA State Employees: Are a WA state employee? The WA State Combined Fund Drive is running from now until early December, and the OVPTA is already registered as a participating 501c3. Current state employees as well as retirees can donate using the Charity Code 0481688. There is no matching donations through this program, but it makes it easy to give via payroll deduction.

Coat Drive

As the colder months are approaching, Olympic View is running a coat drive to ensure every child stays warm this winter.  Your generosity will help provide a cozy layer of warmth for children who may not have adequate winter wear.  Together, we can make a big difference in the lives of our students!

We would love for the coat drive to be fulfilled by the end of October, but we will run the drive until each child that needs a coat has one.  If you would like to purchase elsewhere, feel free.  Just please select a coat of same size and similar color and click “I bought this gift.”  That will remove it from the registry, and you can drop it off or have it shipped to Olympic View.  We are specifically looking for coats that are insulated, hooded, and water resistant.

The prices are regular price, and don’t update with sales.  Please click through to stores for current pricing.

Help Our 5th Graders Experience the Magic of the Olympic Peninsula!

popcorn fundraiser picture

We are raising funds to send our 5th grade class to nature camp for their end of the year trip. Last year we were funded by Washington’s Outdoor Education Grant but state funding was cut this year for that program so we are now on our own. Every bag of popcorn you buy brings them one step closer to an unforgettable experience! Delivery available direct or to your student at OV. Arrives in time for the holidays!

Please reach out to Danielle at dadam3984@gmail.com with any questions!

Kraken Community Iceplex – Free Skating – Saturday, Nov 1

Looking for a way to have your kids burn off all their post-Halloween sugar-fueled energy?  How about some free ice skating! In partnership with the Seattle Kraken, the OV PTA is proud to announce a Free ice skating opportunity at the Kraken Community Iceplex (KCI) in Northgate on Saturday, November 1 from 4:15 PM to 5:45 PM. This event is open to the entire OV community – adults & kids!

We’ll have a check-in table setup in the main lobby where parents/guardians can fill out the waiver form to get skating wristbands for their family. There will be some skate aids available for use and a skate monitor from KCI. Kids are encouraged to bring helmets/safety gear if they have them (there will also be some helmets available for temporary use at the rink).

Please note: this is not a drop-off event – kids must be accompanied by an adult.

We hope to see you there!

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)

The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests it.  The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week.  We need volunteers to help with picking up from the Food Bank on Thursday afternoons and packing on Friday mornings from about 8:00-9:00 am. If you are able to help during this timeframe, please sign up

We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Approved volunteers can feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday, after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time.

We can always use plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store).  If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
