Summary: A message from Nurse Angie Sterwald about medication authorizations

Message from the School Nurse about Medication Authorizations

Hello Families!

My name is Angie and I am your school nurse this year. This is my second year at Olympic View and I am excited to be back. Students call me Nurse Angie. I will be working at OV on Mondays and Thursdays this year. The rest of the week I work at Sand Point Elementary.

Please read the following newsletter with important information.

Medication Conditions and Medication for School

Please feel free to reach out to me if your child has any health concerns or special needs at school. This includes, but is not limited to any life-threatening conditions, such as a life-threatening allergy, seizures, or asthma. It is legally required to keep any emergency medications (epi pens, inhalers, etc) in the school health room. You and your health care provider must fill out the attached forms completely and turn them into school with the medication in its original container.

If you would like to keep Tylenol, ibuprofen, allergy medication, Benadryl, or any other medication at school, you also need a doctor to sign a form authorizing this. We do not stock these meds at school and legally cannot give your child any medication without this properly competed document.

Please reach out if you have any questions. I would rather have more information about your child than not enough!

Vaccines

Vaccines are required for students to be at school. WA state school requirement for immunizations.

If you do not have a healthcare provider or need help accessing healthcare/vaccines, please let me know. We will be having a mobile vaccine clinic at Olympic View Elementary, open to all children aged 6 months-18 year on October 2. More details will follow closer to that event.

Other

I will be conducting hearing and vision screening throughout the first part of the year. This usually takes me a few months, but I will let you know if your child has a vision or hearing concern.

Welcome to Olympic View and I look forward to meeting many of you and working with your great children. Please let me know, at any time, if something changes with your child’s health.
