The Eagle – Last Week of School 2026

The Eagle

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families,

I can’t believe this school year is already over! I hope everyone is going to have an amazing summer.

Spirit Days Week: For the last week of school, we are going to have a different spirit theme each day.

5th Grade Graduation: Congratulations to our out-going fifth graders. Graduation ceremonies will be on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Pride Recess: June is Pride month. We will celebrate by having an all-school recess/dance party on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. If you would like to volunteer to put on rainbow tattoos, let me know!

Last Day One Hour Release: Out last day of school is Wednesday, June 15. Students will be released at 1:25 p.m.

Early Start School Year: Because Labor Day is so late this year, SPS will start school earlier than normal. The first day of school for grades 1-5 will be Wednesday, September 2. Kindergarteners start on Tuesday, September 8.

In partnership,

This Week’s News

A Big Mahalo to all the Field Day Volunteers

Dear OV Families and Community thank you for helping with all the tasks that help make field day a huge success. I would also like to thank Kristel Gonzales for being the point person responsible for inviting you all in and helping make the day run smoothly. I received a lot of feedback from students about how incredible it was and how it left them filled with joy. Until next year !

Summer Quest, SPL’s new all-ages program, starts June 15

This summer, The Seattle Public Library invites everyone to participate in Summer Quest, a new program that encourages reading, learning, and creative activities for all ages. Starting Monday, June 15, pick up your activity tracker at any branch or download one online Activity Tracker Link.

Every child with a tracker gets a free ticket to PlayDate SEA. Kids who complete 30 days of reading and activities will earn a free book and raffle entry for a PlayDate SEA pizza party for 10! Just show your tracker at your branch by Sept. 4. Library locations are also hosting dozens of free Summer Quest programs, from magic to music to art.

A note from Nurse Angie

Vaccines- immunizations are required for students to attend school.  If your child is not current with vaccines, they risk being excluded from school in the fall.

Life Threatening Conditions– Asthma, life-threatening allergies (requiring an epi pen), and seizures are considered life-threatening conditions.  It is legally required to keep all medications related to these conditions at school.  If your child sees their doctor this summer, please bring them the correct medication authorization to fill out for next school year.

Dietary Requirements- Does your child have a dietary requirement that is not related to a life-threatening allergy?  If your doctor fills out the Diet Prescription Form, we can be sure to have appropriate meals to meet your child’s dietary needs.  Without this form, we will not be able to accommodate food sensitivities or specific requirements, such as a vegan diet.

Diet Prescription Form

Complete forms can be sent to amsterwald@seattleschools.org or faxed to 206-743-3157

Extra Clothing – We need clothing in our closet to help kids who need a change of clothes during the day.  If you have clothing that we’ve lent your child or clothing that your children have outgrown, please consider sending them in.

Please send:

  • Soft pants with elastic waistband (leggings, sweatpants, etc), sizes 5-10
  • Girl-style underwear, sizes 4-10
  • Boy-style underwear, sizes 4-8
  • Socks
  • Short and long-sleeved t-shirts, sizes XS-M

NO:

  • Hard, difficult to button pants
  • Large underwear (bigger than size 8-10)
  • Any clothing that is very stained or has large holes

Please do not send in items other than what is requested as we do not have the staff to sort through them. Thank you!

ART COORDINATOR TEAM NEEDED FOR NEXT YEAR! HELP SAVE THE ARTS!

The PTA is looking for someone, or a team of people, to help coordinate all of the amazing art opportunities at school next year. This includes helping to support the art docent programs, wonderful wednesdays, artist in residencies, and our new STEAM night. We have volunteers to help with each of these projects so you won’t be alone but need a committee to help facilitate. If we do not find folks for this position, we may be forced to discontinue some of our arts programming which is such a benefit to our entire community. Please email president@ovpta.org or enrichment@ovpta.org with any questions or interest. THANK YOU!

LEGO Robotics Team

Hello OV families, this past fall at OV we had our first ever LEGO Robotics Team for 5th graders. It was both fun and challenging and attending the citywide competition was such a special experience. I’d love to continue this program in the fall for next year’s 5th graders, but I need help! Can you volunteer to be a coach with me? I need all hands on deck! You do not need to have a student in 5th grade 😊. Please reach out to me at hapiercemaia@seattleschools.org with inquiries and questions. Thanks! -Mx. Maiani
