The Eagle – Week of June 8
The Eagle
Letter from Principal Bean
Dear Families,
Field Day: Thank you Mrs. Bruecher and all the volunteers that made Field Day another incredible event. I was worried earlier in the week that it was going to be rainy, but the weather cooperated.
2026 Grad Walk: On Monday morning at 9:00, we are welcoming the class of 2026 who attended Olympic View. They will parade through the halls and be cheered on by all the students. This is a new tradition that we started last year.
5th Grade Camp: Our fifth graders are going to NatureBridge which is on Crescent Lake near Port Angeles. I want to give a huge shout out to Andrea Chaddock, to our fifth-grade teachers, and to the PTA who helped to finance this amazing experience.
Last Day of School One Hour Release: Our last day of school is Wednesday, June 17. Students will be released at 1:25.
In partnership,
Mr. Bean (he/him)

This Week’s News
End of Year Library News
Families, all library books are due in the library on Tuesday, June 9. Notices will be sent out to all families this week to let you know which books your child still has checked out. Late books will always be accepted and will not result in an overdue fine.
If you believe your child has lost a book, there are two ways to replace or pay for missing books. If you’d like to replace the book, please purchase a duplicate copy of the book and have your child bring the book to Mrs. Leland in the library. You may also turn books into the front office and ask for them to be placed in Mrs. Leland’s mailbox. If you replace a book, please attach a sticky note with your student’s name and the word “replacement”.
You may also pay for books through School Pay on The Source. To do this, please log into The Source https://ps.seattleschools.org/public/. Log in with your parent account. If you have not set up an account, please do so first, then log into The Source. Once in there, you can find School Pay on the menu on the left. From there it will indicate where to pay for any lost or missing library books.
5th Grade families, please take care of all missing or lost books with Mrs. Leland before the end of the school year. Any books that are lost or missing in elementary school will remain on your child’s account through middle and high school.
If you have questions, please reach out to Mrs. Leland (klleland@seattleschools.org).
A note from Nurse Angie
Vaccines- immunizations are required for students to attend school. If your child is not current with vaccines, they risk being excluded from school in the fall.
Life Threatening Conditions– Asthma, life-threatening allergies (requiring an epi pen), and seizures are considered life-threatening conditions. It is legally required to keep all medications related to these conditions at school. If your child sees their doctor this summer, please bring them the correct medication authorization to fill out for next school year.
Dietary Requirements- Does your child have a dietary requirement that is not related to a life-threatening allergy? If your doctor fills out the Diet Prescription Form, we can be sure to have appropriate meals to meet your child’s dietary needs. Without this form, we will not be able to accommodate food sensitivities or specific requirements, such as a vegan diet.
Complete forms can be sent to amsterwald@seattleschools.org or faxed to 206-743-3157
Extra Clothing- We need clothing in our closet to help kids who need a change of clothes during the day. If you have clothing that we’ve lent your child or clothing that your children have outgrown, please consider sending them in.
Please send:
- Soft pants with elastic waistband (leggings, sweatpants, etc), sizes 5-10
- Girl-style underwear, sizes 4-10
- Boy-style underwear, sizes 4-8
- Socks
- Short and long-sleeved t-shirts, sizes XS-M
NO:
- Hard, difficult to button pants
- Large underwear (bigger than size 8-10)
- Any clothing that is very stained or has large holes
ART COORDINATOR TEAM NEEDED FOR NEXT YEAR! HELP SAVE THE ARTS!
The PTA is looking for someone, or a team of people, to help coordinate all of the amazing art opportunities at school next year. This includes helping to support the art docent programs, wonderful wednesdays, artist in residencies, and our new STEAM night. We have volunteers to help with each of these projects so you won’t be alone but need a committee to help facilitate. If we do not find folks for this position, we may be forced to discontinue some of our arts programming which is such a benefit to our entire community. Please email president@ovpta.org or enrichment@ovpta.org with any questions or interest. THANK YOU!
LEGO Robotics Team
Hello OV families, this past fall at OV we had our first ever LEGO Robotics Team for 5th graders. It was both fun and challenging and attending the citywide competition was such a special experience. I’d love to continue this program in the fall for next year’s 5th graders, but I need help! Can you volunteer to be a coach with me? I need all hands on deck! You do not need to have a student in 5th grade 😊. Please reach out to me at hapiercemaia@seattleschools.org with inquiries and questions. Thanks! -Mx. Maiani
Volunteer Opportunities
Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)
The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests it. The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week. We need volunteers to help with picking up from the Food Bank on Thursday afternoons and packing on Friday mornings from about 8-9 a.m. If you are able to help Eagle Pack during this timeframe, please sign up.
We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Approved volunteers can feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday, after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time.
We can always use plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store). If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
