The Eagle – Week of May 18

The Eagle

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families

Hootenanny on Friday Was a Blast: Friday was such a fun night. There are so many talented students at OV! I want to give a big shout out to Sabrina O’Brien and Adam Quillian for organizing this event.

SBA Testing Continues This Week: 3rd-5th grade students continue state testing this week. Please make sure your kids get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive on time, as testing begins first thing in the morning.

Third Grade Artist in Residency Experience: Thanks to the PTA, every year each grade level gets to experience a unique artist-in-residency experience. This year, third grade is learning how to break dance! I had the thrill of joining Ms. Spicer’s class last week. The kids were having so much fun, and I got to share some of my old-school moves!

Visitor/Volunteer Sign-In: Just a reminder that all visitors must sign in to the office after entering the building.

New Cell Phone Policy: SPS is implementing a new cell phone policy. For grades K-8the expectations are that cell phones are “away for the day.” This means that they need to be turned off and safely secured. If a staff member sees a phone, the staff member will take the phone, and the phone will be returned to the student at the end of the day. If it continues to happen, then families will be contacted, and a more restrictive plan will be implemented.

In partnership,

Mr. Bean (he/him)
Principal, Olympic View

Ballard Parade Sunday, May 17: Come Support our Unicyclists

Please join us on Sunday May 17 for the Ballard Parade from 6-8 pm. Our unicyclists will be joining Whittier Elementary. This is our 19th or so year of riding. The parade starts at 62nd and 24th Ave NW & ends at Ballard Ave and Ione St.

Field Day is FRIDAY, JUNE 5

Field Day is almost here, and we couldn’t be more excited! This year’s event will take place on Friday, June 5th, beginning with lunch and continuing into an afternoon of activities featuring 14 stations. All students will get a free lunch if they choose to have the lunch offered.

Field Day is a wonderful opportunity for our Olympic View community to come together and celebrate. To make this a day to remember for all our students, we’d love your help! We need donations of sidewalk chalk, volunteers to assist with lunch prep, service, and cleanup, and 30–40 helpers to run the Field Day stations. Field Day Volunteer Sign-Up

All volunteers must be registered with Seattle Public Schools. Please visit the SPS Volunteer Portal Guide to update your volunteer status for this year or to complete your volunteer application.

Please contact Kristel Gonzales (k.linnes@gmail.com) or Mrs. Bruecher (bhbruecher@seattleschools.org) with any questions.

Thank you—and get ready for a super fun time!

Order your 2025-2026 Olympic View Yearbook by June 5

yearbook cover preview

It’s time to order your student’s 2025-2026 Olympic View Yearbook! The yearbook is a 60 page, full color snap shot of this awesome school year. Order yours for $25 via the OVPTA Yearbook Order page or via check (made out to “OVPTA”) or cash using the order form sent home with each student. Be sure to include your child’s name and teacher/room number on this form. We will distribute the books during the last week of school.

All 5th graders will receive a book free of charge. If you are able, please consider donating additional funds to help the PTA pay for these scholarship yearbooks.

Email Greg Flowers at yearbook@ovpta.org with questions. Quantities are limited and orders are due June 5.

Lost & Found Reminder

Our Lost & Found has been set up outside since last Friday, and many coats, sweaters, and shirts are still waiting to be claimed.

Any remaining items after this weekend will be donated.

Please:
• Encourage your student to check Lost & Found regularly
• Label jackets, sweatshirts, water bottles, and lunch boxes with your child’s name
• Build a quick “Lost & Found check” into your family’s weekly routine

Thank you for helping us reunite items with their owners and keep our Lost & Found manageable!

Plastic Bottles Needed!

Mx. Maiani’s class needs your help! We’ve decided to use our class points to make bottle rockets! So fun 😊. Do you have plastic soda bottles that you could rinse and donate for this project? 20 oz, 1L or 2L size plastic bottles would be great. Please drop off clean plastic bottles to room 203 or leave them with the main office.

Thanks for your help! -Mx. Maiani’s 4th grade class

Volunteer Opportunities

Wonderful Wednesday Helpers

Once a month the Art Committee hosts a lunch recess art activity that is absolutely beloved by the students. From 11:05 a.m.-11:55 p.m. we offer a small project supporting seasonal themes and exploring a variety of materials. Contact Cara Mattera at enrichment@ovpta.org for more Art Committee information.

Library Help

Thank you for considering volunteering in the OV Library. If this is your first time volunteering in the library, please reach out to Ms. Leland klleland@seattleschools.org to receive an SPS Volunteer Invitation.  Send any questions my way.

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)

The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests it.  The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week.  We need volunteers to help with picking up from the Food Bank on Thursday afternoons and packing on Friday mornings from about 8-9 a.m. If you are able to help Eagle Pack during this timeframe, please sign up

We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Approved volunteers can feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday, after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time.

We can always use plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store).  If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
