The Eagle – Week of May 25

The Eagle

Letter from Principal Bean

Dear Families

No School on Monday: Just a reminder that there is no school tomorrow because of Memorial Day.

Volunteer Appreciation: I want to give a heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who make OV such a special place. We would like to celebrate with you on Thursday morning with our Volunteer Appreciation Assembly and reception. The assembly will start at 8:10, and we will have the reception outside the kindergarten classrooms with coffee and treats!

Drop-off Expectations: A few years ago, we had students line up before the bell in the morning and not have them play. This led to a dramatic increase in student readiness to start the day calmly. Please remind your child to calmly line up in the morning. Also, if they bring a ball from home, they are expected to just hold the ball.

Last Chance for Food Donations: Mx. Maiani’s fourth-grade class is doing a food drive and will deliver the donations to the food bank next Friday. If you would like to donate non-perishable goods, please drop them in the box next to the office next Tuesday.

SBA Testing Continues This Week: 3rd-5th grade students continue state testing this week. Please make sure your kids get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive on time, as testing begins first thing in the morning.

Signing in at the Office: Just a reminder that all visitors must sign in at the office after entering the building.

In partnership,

Mr. Bean (he/him)
Principal, Olympic View

Ballard Parade 2026

Congratulations to all the students who came out and participated in the Ballard Parade. Lots of long-lasting memories were made. Parents thank you for coming out to support your child. If you see a unicyclist around school congratulate them and ask how the parade experience was for them. Until next year. A Hui Hou ( until we see each other again).

Volunteer Opportunities

Wonderful Wednesday Helpers

Once a month the Art Committee hosts a lunch recess art activity that is absolutely beloved by the students. From 11:05 a.m.-11:55 p.m. we offer a small project supporting seasonal themes and exploring a variety of materials. Contact Cara Mattera at enrichment@ovpta.org for more Art Committee information.

Library Help

Thank you for considering volunteering in the OV Library. If this is your first time volunteering in the library, please reach out to Ms. Leland klleland@seattleschools.org to receive an SPS Volunteer Invitation.  Send any questions my way.

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)

The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests it.  The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week.  We need volunteers to help with picking up from the Food Bank on Thursday afternoons and packing on Friday mornings from about 8-9 a.m. If you are able to help Eagle Pack during this timeframe, please sign up

We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Approved volunteers can feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday, after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time.

We can always use plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store).  If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
