The Eagle – Week of November 3
The Eagle – Week of November 3
Letter from Principal Bean
Dear Families,
November Attribute: Our “Attribute of a Changemaker” for November will be on the idea of “service and bravery.”
Veterans Day Assembly on Monday: We will kick off our focus on service by having our annual Veterans Day Assembly this Monday, November 3 at 8:10. If you are a Veteran (or a current service member), please come to our assembly so we can thank you for your service.
Spirit Day on Wednesday: This month will be “Nature Day”. Students are encouraged to wear clothes with anything nature related!
Halloween Candy: We are allowing students to have one small piece at lunch, and no more. Please remind your child that if they bring more, it will be confiscated, as it can seriously disrupt the learning environment.
OV General PTA Meeting: This Wednesday there will be the first general meeting for the PTA. It will be from 6:30-8:00 in the cafeteria. All families are welcome!
No School on November 11: Just a reminder that there will be no school on Tuesday, November 11 because of Veterans Day.
School-Wide Tardy Goal: I have shared many times about the volume of tardies we have. I compared Olympic View’s tardy data with the district and was shocked to see such a huge discrepancy.

There are so many reasons why getting to school on time is so important!
- You learn more!
 - You teach your child the importance of being punctual.
 - You help your child’s regulation and connection. When you join the class on time, you experience the class routines and have opportunities to connect with your peers. It creates a sense of belonging. This is so important for the brain to be ready to learn.

In partnership,
Mr. Bean (he/him)
Principal, Olympic View

Giving Opportunities
UPDATE: Direct Ask Flying Forward Fund
We are a little over halfway through the month and have raised $11,085 of our $20,000 goal. Thank you to all who have donated already! We still have a ways to go so keep those blue envelopes coming in, drop off in person at the General PTA meeting on November 5, or donate at the link below. Don’t forget to share with family, friends, or neighbors who would like to support OV, and remember employer matching!
Giving Opportunity for WA State Employees: Are a WA state employee? The WA State Combined Fund Drive is running from now until early December, and the OVPTA is already registered as a participating 501c3. Current state employees as well as retirees can donate using the Charity Code 0481688. There is no matching donations through this program, but it makes it easy to give via payroll deduction.
Help Our 5th Graders Experience the Magic of the Olympic Peninsula!
We are raising funds to send our 5th grade class to nature camp for their end of the year trip. Last year we were funded by Washington’s Outdoor Education Grant but state funding was cut this year for that program so we are now on our own. Every bag of popcorn you buy brings them one step closer to an unforgettable experience! Delivery available direct or to your student at OV. Arrives in time for the holidays!
Please reach out to Danielle at dadam3984@gmail.com with any questions!

Volunteer Opportunities
Wonderful Wednesday Helpers
Once a month we have a lunch recess art activity that is absolutely beloved by the students. From 11:05am-11:55pm, we offer a small project either outside on the playlot or in the main lobby, supporting seasonal themes and exploring a variety of materials. November 19 will be our next Wonderful Wednesday, please sign-up below. Contact Cara Mattera at enrichment@ovpta.org for more Art Committee information.
Library Help
Thank you for considering volunteering in the OV Library. If this is your first time volunteering in the library, please reach out to Ms. Leland klleland@seattleschools.org to receive an SPS Volunteer Invitation. Send any questions my way.

Eagle Pack Volunteers Needed (and bags too)
The Eagle Pack program provides weekend food bags for any family that requests it. The University Food Bank provides the food items, and volunteers pack the bags and distribute them to classrooms every week. We need volunteers to help with picking up from the Food Bank on Thursday afternoons and packing on Friday mornings from about 8:00-9:00 am. If you are able to help during this timeframe, please sign up.
We would love to have some consistent volunteers, so if you can commit to one or more Fridays a month, that would be helpful. Approved volunteers can feel free to drop into the lunchroom any Friday, after drop off to lend a hand as well if you find yourself with some time.
We can always use plastic and paper shopping bags (the thicker, handled ones like from Target or a grocery store). If you have extras you can donate, please drop them off in the office.
